Delhi Is Getting Its First All-Women Police Station In Sabzi Mandi Area. Too Little, Too Late.

In recent events, Delhi is all set to have its first all-women police station, which is a big step towards improving female safety in the national capital. This initiative is made to create a more sensitive and supportive environment for women to safely report cries and ask for assistance. According to HT, this station will be designed as a safe space, staffed entirely by women. Read to know more about it here.

First Women’s Police Station In Delhi

This initiative intends to encourage more women to step forward in reporting crimes without second thoughts, especially in cases of domestic violence and harassment. An officer told the publication, “It has been in the works for the last few weeks. Recently, it was decided that the first such police station will be set up in the north district. Modalities of the same are being worked upon.” For the unversed, the Delhi Police has special units like the Special Police Unit for Women and Children, but not a dedicated all-women police station.

The new facility will fill this gap and provide women with a more focused approach to handling crimes against them. Officials say that such an institution will build trust among women, especially those who hesitate to go to regular police stations. With an all-female staff, officials also aim to have a safer atmosphere for the complainants. The station will be dedicated to registering all cases against women and will be housed within the premises of the crime against women (CAW) cell in Sabzi Mandi.
