This case dates back to when a plea was rejected by the Magistral Court over registering a First Information Report (FIR) against Sonia Gandhi. The plea questioned the minister’s name on the voter’s list even before she received India’s citizenship. After the plea was rejected, the petitioner filed another criminal revision plea, and now the court has sent notices to Sonia Gandhi and the Delhi Police to seek a response in the matter. Here’s what we know so far.
What Is The Matter?
A criminal revision plea was filed by Vikas Tripathi after the magisterial court declined the request for an FIR against Sonia Gandhi. As per a report by India Today, the plea was rejected because there was not much evidence against the allegations filed in the case. It was declined on September 11. The plea had allegations against Sonia Gandhi over her name in the electoral roll of the New Delhi Parliamentary constituency in 1980 when she had received her Indian citizenship in 1983, three years later. As per the reports, the plea was declined on basis that it lacked strong evidences to support the claim and the bold accusations of the petitioner simply relied on the photocopy of an uncertified electoral roll.
However, the petitioner has filed a criminal revision plea after the court’s refusal to accept his plea. Now, Special Judge Vishal Gogne has sent out notices to Sonia Gandhi and Delhi Police to seek their responses on this criminal revision please.
