Self-styled ‘godman’ Asaram Bapu has been granted parole again, and this after the convict had already been granted relief during his 13 years of imprisonment. The court cited several reasons for granting him parole, and reportedly the police have raised strong objections to it on grounds that he may abscond. Has Asaram Bapu Got Parole Again?
The Rajasthan High Court passed the decision, and Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and Justice Sanjeet Purohit headed the bench. HC noted that the self-styled ‘Godman’ Asaram Bapu’s behaviour in his last paroles has been responsible, and he had never broken any rules. As per the news reports, the court also observed that Asaram Bapu had not created any law and order situations during his interim bail. Therefore, the convict was granted his first regular parole for 20 days with a personal bond of 50,000 and two solvent sureties of Rs. 25,000 each.
However, some objections were raised by the State police, who were concerned that the convict may use the parole to abscond. They also reiterated that cases were pending against Asaram Bapu outside Rajasthan and that the Gadhinagar Court in Gujarat had convicted him.

The Supreme Court also heard a plea for Asaram Bapu’s interim bail, and the court noted that the AIIMS doctors said that Asaram Bapu was in no need of medical treatment or hospitalisation; instead, he needed constant medical assistance.
For the unversed, Asaram Bapu faces charges for s*xually assaulting a minor at his ashram. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2018, and an additional life imprisonment was passed for him by the Gandhinagar sessions court in 2023.
