Why Did Claudia Goldin Win A Nobel Prize In Economic Sciences?
Claudia Goldin’s research in women’s work, labour market outcomes and gender pay gap has reportedly made an impact in the economics fields as well as women’s role in economic development. Due to this reason, Caludia has been awarded the 2023 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for furthering the understanding of women’s labour market outcomes. Through her research, the economist revealed the first comprehensive data on women’s earnings as well as their contribution to the labour market over the centuries. Her research also revealed the main sources of the gender pay gap and other gender differences in the labour market. Further, the data revealed how women are underrepresented in the global labour market as well as show the participation of married women reduced with the transition from agrarian to industrial society in the early 19th century and then grew with the growth of the service sector.
