BJP MP Calls Code Name For Gaya Airport ‘Gay’ As Culturally Offensive, Twitter Calls Out Homophobic Mindset!

Talk about bizarre and unnecessary issues being raised, and we will have some other news to talk about. Like, recently, a Rajya Sabha member raised questions over the code name for Gaya Airport. In his opinion, the name was culturally offensive, and in his letter to the government, the MP also asked if the authorities were considering changing the name. For the unversed, the code name of the Gaya Airport is Gay. Read on to know more.

What Did The BJP MP Say?

The BJP member Bhim Singh raised his concerns regarding the code name for Gaya Airport, which has been decided as Gay. In his letter to the government, he mentioned that the name was “culturally offensive” and even socially unacceptable. He further asked if the Government was planning to change the name to something more culturally appropriate and asked if the authorities had received any complaints against the name.

The Bihar government responded to this query, and firmly stated that the names were changed only under some exceptional circumstance and that the three-letter code are considered permanent till then, as per a report by the Hindustan Times. In the response, Murlidhar Mohol, the Minister Of State For Civil Aviation, also enlightened the BJP MP that the codes were assigned by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and are mostly the first three letters of the Airport’s name.
