IPL 2026 is just around the corner and the excitement is on another level and now The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released a clear set of rules for all the teams. These guidelines were shared with team managers and focus on many important things. So, read on to know all about it!
The BCCI has introduced several new rules for IPL 2026. Every team will now get two dedicated practice nets and one side wicket for range-hitting. At Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, if two teams train at the same time, each will receive two separate wickets. Sharing nets or wickets is not allowed, and fresh nets will be provided for every session. Even if one team finishes early, the other team cannot use their range-hitting wicket.
Teams are banned from practicing or playing any matches on the main square pitch for four days before their first home game. If needed, the BCCI will arrange a free alternative ground. Teams can play up to two practice matches before the season starts, but they must inform the BCCI in advance. These matches cannot use the main pitch and must wrap up within 3.5 hours if played under floodlights.
On practice days, all players have to travel to the stadium together in the official team bus and they cannot go with family members. Family and friends must use separate vehicles and stay only in the hospitality area.
Players can’t hit balls onto the LED boards, and no one can sit in front of them. Special seating spots will be arranged for substitute players, with towels and water bottles provided.

All players must wear the orange and purple caps during the match. They must wear them for the first two overs for the cameras, even if they don’t keep them on. After the game, players cannot wear sleeveless jerseys or slippers during the presentation. A first offence will get a warning, while a second one will result in a fine.
