The self-proclaimed Godman Ashok Kharat was arrested in Nashik in a r*pe case. More complaints of s*xual harassment were later filed against him, and the case is currently being investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). In the latest updates on the matter, reports suggest that Ashok Kharat’s police custody has been extended, and new developments in the investigation have also started. Read here.
Ashok Kharat’s Custody Extended
The “Godman” was arrested in Nashik on March 18 in a r*pe case and is currently in police custody. As per a Hindustan Times report, his custody has been extended till April 1. This development has come after the investigation team informed the court that they have retrieved mobile data which could turn out to be beneficial in the case. As per the reports, the date will be further studied by the state forensic science laboratory. The investigation team will also probe into Ashok Kharat’s financial involvements and his network, and therefore has asked for an extension in the judicial custody. The team will also begin questioning him on the matter. The SIT was represented in court by assistant public prosecutor Shailendra Bagade, who made strong arguments for Kharat’s extended judicial custody.
He also stated that Kharat had not disclosed his assets and or financial transactions with the victims. Furthermore, the reports also suggest that the investigating officer has told the court that Ashok Kharat was not cooperating in the investigation.
Ashok Kharat was arrested for s*xually assualting a woman for over three years. Later, more cases of assault and cheating were filed against him. Some questionable videos also did rounds on social media, erupting a massive outrage against him.
