Ashok Kharat Case: CA Accuses ‘Godman’ Of Rs 8.76 Crores Fraud, Details Surface

In recent events, Nashik’s Self-proclaimed godman Ashok Kharat has found himself in trouble yet again after a chartered accountant filed a cheating complaint against him. For the unversed, he is already under arrest for several r*pe and assault cases. And now another allegation of a financial fraud of more than Rs 8.76 crores has intensified this case even more. Lalit Pophale has claimed that Ashok Kharat cheated him after taking money in the disguise of religious rituals and ceremonies. As per the complaint, the self-proclaimed godman has misappropriated Rs 8.76 crores in a period of time. Reportedly, the SIT has registered this complaint and has also started an investigation into this alleged financial cheating. Investigators stated that Pophale was declared a trustee of Ashok’s Shivnika organisation since having a CA for the trust was compulsory.
The complaint also claimed that he took advantage of this to play out the fraud. The allegations stated that he not only cheated the public but also people closely associated with him. Kharat, a former Merchant Navy officer who went by the title “Captain,” was arrested on March 17 after a woman alleged that he had sexually assaulted her over three years. During the probe, police seized a pen drive containing 58 videos, including several explicit clips.

In the midst of the Kharat issue, NCP politician Rupali Chakankar resigned as president of the party’s Maharashtra women’s branch. In the Nashik district’s Sinnar town, where Kharat served as president, Chakankar served as a trustee of Shri Shivnika Sansthan.
