Actor Jiiva clashes with reporter after denying harassment in the Tamil film industry

Tamil actor Jiiva has found himself amid a big controversy for a comment he made recently at an event in Chennai. The actor made people rage when he denied any instance of s*xual harassment In Kollywood when asked about the Hema Committee Report, which brought out many cases of exploitation in Mollywood and lost his cool at the reporter after that. Singer Chinmayi Sripada immediately called him out on his remark.

A video of the actor engaged in a physical and verbal fight with a reporter at an event is going around on X (Formerly Twitter). At first, when Jiiva was asked about the Hema Committee Report, he said that he had heard about it. He said that first there was #MeToo part 1 and now, its second part has arrived. He said that openly pointing out the abuser’s name is wrong and that we should keep a healthy environment in the cinemas.

When poked further, he refused to answer claiming that we wanted to keep a good environment at the event. He continued by saying that he wouldn’t be replying to this question again and again as he had already addressed it. He concluded by saying that such events don’t occur in the Tamil film industry, rather they only happen in Kerala.
Singer Chinmayi Sripada, who has been vocal about incidents of s*xual harassment in the Tamil film industry, and also spoke about her alleged abuse at the hands of lyricist Vairamuthu, called him out. She re-shared Jiiva’s clip on X and wrote, “I really do not understand how they are saying sexual harassment does not exist in Tamil Industry. HOW?!” This news came a day after veteran actor Rajnikanth was asked about the same and replied by saying that she doesn’t know anything.
The Justice K Hema Committee was created by the Kerala government after the 2017 assault case of a female actor. Its research uncovered incidents of harassment and exploitation of women in the Malayalam cinema industry. Since then, numerous actors have come out to accuse actors and directors like Siddique and Ranjith of sexual harassment and abuse.
