Nisha Dahiya has firmly established herself as a prominent figure in Indian wrestling, securing her spot for the 2024 Paris Olympics in the women’s 68kg category. Gaining significant recognition after winning a bronze at the World Under-23 Championships in 2021, Dahiya’s ascent continued with a silver medal at the Asian Championships in Astana, showcasing her growing prowess on the international stage.
Details On Nisha Dahiya
Nisha Dahiya first caught the attention of the wrestling world when she clinched a bronze medal in the 65kg category at the World Under-23 Championships in Belgrade in 2021. Building on this success, she continued to excel by winning a silver medal at the Asian Championships in Astana, where she faced stiff competition from Japan’s Ami Ishil. Despite these achievements, Dahiya faces a formidable challenge in Paris; she aims to follow in the footsteps of Sakshi Malik, the only Indian female wrestler to have won an Olympic medal thus far. Her road to Paris was not without obstacles. Last year, Dahiya faced a significant setback when she was sidelined for two months due to a fractured collarbone, followed by a lengthy recovery that kept her away from training. However, her determination saw her return to form and eventually secure her spot at the Paris Olympics during the World Olympic Qualifiers held in Istanbul, Turkey, in May. There, she showcased her prowess by defeating Alexandra Anghel of Romania in a decisive semi-final bout.
Nisha’s journey to Olympic qualification began with victories over younger competitors like Alina Shauchuk from Belarus and experienced wrestlers such as Adela Hanzlickova from the Czech Republic. Her performance not only earned her a place in Paris but also contributed to India securing its fifth female wrestling quota for the Olympics.
