The news arrived as a shock across the country and on social networking platforms where she had a huge following. Read on to know who Sana Yousaf was.

Who Was Sana Yousaf?

Sana Yousaf, a resident of Upper Chitral in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, had become famous on the strength of her TikTok and Instagram videos. She had over 500,000 fans on Instagram and around 400,000 fans on TikTok and was fast making a name for herself as an online content creator and influencer. Her otherwise lighthearted and relatable videos attracted a huge number of young people in Pakistan.

Reports say the shooting took place at her residence in Sector G-13 of Islamabad. According to police sources, a guest, whom the police assume was a visitor, fired at Sana from point-blank range within the house before fleeing. The government has not yet identified the attacker, although an investigation is in progress. Her body was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for post-mortem.

Thoughthe  motive remains under investigation, it has been said to possibly be a suspected honour killing case in some sources. Though unofficially not confirmed, the suggestion only added to public concern. Should it be proven, it reflects a pattern of violence where women are targeted for simply being online or transcending strict societal boundaries.
