On October 11, Ratan Tata’s half-brother Noel Tata was appointed as the new chairman of Tata Trusts. According to CNBC TV18, he was appointed as the chairman of Tata Trusts after a board meeting. Who Is Noel Tata?
Noel Tata is currently the chairman of several companies, including Trent, Voltas, Tata Investment Corporation, and Tata International. He is the son of Naval and Simone Tata and also serves as the Vice Chairman of Tata Steel and Titan. Additionally, he is also a member of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust. Furthermore, he has mainly focused on the global retail operations of the Tata group and was already a trustee of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust and the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, which together hold 66 per cent of Tata Sons. His children Neville, Maya, and Leah are also the trustees of charities.

Tata Trusts was established by Noel and Ratan’s great-grandfather, Jamsetji Tata, in 1892, shortly after he started the Tata group. Since then, Tata Trusts has expanded into different areas like education, healthcare, and housing. In addition, Noel Tata has been the chairman of Trent Ltd. since 2014. In 2019, he joined the board of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust and became the vice chairman of Titan Company in 2018. In March 2022, he was appointed vice chairman of Tata Steel, which further strengthened his position within the group. Before leading Trent, Noel Tata was in charge of Tata International Ltd. from 2010 to 2021. During his time there, the company’s revenue grew significantly from $500 million to over $3 billion.
