In recent events, a bold speech by a Mumbai-born law student called Viraansh Bhanushali at Oxford University is going viral all over social media. He grabbed everyone’s attention for his hard-hitting remarks on social media during an intense debate on India-Pakistan’s relations. The debate was held at Britain’s prestigious Oxford Union and it was his speech on Pakistan that led him to overnight fame. Who Is Viraansh Bhanushali?

The debate’s motion was: Viraansh described his personal anguish as a Mumbaikar from the Pakistan-sponsored terror strikes in 2008, spoke extensively about India’s policies toward Pakistan, and attacked the neighboring nation. He is a student at St Peter’s College, Oxford, Bhanushali gained fame after his speech on Pakistan went viral. He is a B.A. Jurisprudence, i.e., Law Studies in Europe student at the University of Oxford (2022-2026). Viraansh is currently a Chief of Staff to the Oxford Union President and has held roles like International Officer and Deputy Returning Officer at the Union.

Additionally, he has contributed to a number of workshops for prospective lawyers while serving as the Oxford University Bar Society’s Events Officer. According to his LinkedIn page, Viraansh Bhanushali has assisted students in their academic and professional endeavors as a mentor with Upgrade Education.
Viraansh Bhanushali refuted the claims made by Moosa Harraj, president of the Pakistani Oxford Union, that India’s policies on Pakistan are formed with elections in mind. In a heated response, Viraansh Bhanushali described India’s reactions to several terror assaults, from measured military action after the Pahalgam terror attack to diplomatic restraint in the wake of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

Bhanushali said that experience has shown it is impossible to shame a country that feels no shame. Referring to major terror attacks on Indian soil, including Pathankot, Uri, and Pulwama, he criticized Pakistan and stated that a nation that shelters terrorist networks cannot claim any moral high ground.
