Sex is an important part of our lives and it’s just like any other bodily need. Just the way we eat food when we’re hungry and drink water when we’re thirsty, we should be having sex when our body demands it. But it’s not uncommon for people to go through a period of sexual abstinence or have time when people just don’t get some, you know what I mean. Be it a casual relationship or a serious romantic relationship, it usually begins with a lot of sex but the spark usually fizzles out and one gradually stops feeling the need for a lot of sex. Now, apart from sexual frustration, not having sexual intercourse is not going to dry up your vajajay or turn you into a virgin all over again (not literally at least). But not having sex does have a negative impact on our minds and our body. Here are some things that will happen to you when you stop having sex.

1. Your Stress Levels Rise

Sexual activity releases happy hormones like oxytocin, dopamine and serotonin which uplifts your mood and improves your emotional and mental health and releases stress but not having sex can lead to sexual frustration and also increase your stress levels.

2. Your Immunity Weakens

Sexual activity leads to a surge in immunoglobulin A and when you stop having sex, there is hardly any release of immunoglobulin which weakens your immunity levels and makes you prone to diseases like flu, cough and seasonal fever.

3. Your Sexual Response May Turn Negative

Abstinence from sex can often lead to a major drop in your sex drive. Not having sexual intercourse for a long time can reduce one’s urge to have sex or an orgasm for that matter. This means that the more sex you have the more you’ll want and the lesser you do it, the lesser you feel the need for it.

4. It Increases Your Risk Of Prostate Cancer

Some studies have claimed that men who ejaculate less than 7 times a month are more likely to develop prostate cancer as compared to those who do it a minimum of 21 times a month.

5. You Could Develop Sexual Health Problems

Not having sex for a long time may not tighten your vagina but it will make your vaginal tissue shrink and dry out which in turn makes sex painful. Sexual activity is also good for our pelvic floor muscles and not having sex can weaken them or even lead to pelvic floor dysfunction and lead to other sexual health problems like vaginismus. A study also claims that men who have sex less than once a week are more likely to develop erectile dysfunction as compared to those who do it regularly.

6. It Can Make It Difficult To Get Wet

Having sexual intercourse regularly is a great way to keep your sexual organs in shape and in practice but a lack of sex for a long time can slow your sexual organs down. This doesn’t mean that your vagina will not work properly while having sex but it will need some practice. One thing that happens with vagina owners when they stop having sex is that the lubrication reduces which means that it will be difficult for you to get wet and you might need some extra help and practice to get things started again.
