This Woman Nurtured A Plant For Two Years Before Realising It Was Fake. The Story Sounds Just Like My Love Life
We’ve grown up believing that if you put effort in nurturing something and it will get you the desired results. Our parents told us if we study hard, we will be successful. They kept the definition of success vague, lest you turn around and look at them saying, ‘Hey, this didn’t work out!’ but you get what I mean. You love truly and it will last. You water a plant and it will grow. Umm, no. It didn’t happen with Caelei Wilkes’ succulent and there’s a very logical reason behind it. The woman whose post has gone viral had been nurturing a plant for two years and she found out recently that the reason it wasn’t showing much growth was because it was made of plastic.
Caelie shared the picture of her very much fake plant and poured her heart out. “I’ve had this beautiful succulent for about 2 years now. I was so proud of this plant. It was full, beautiful coloring, just an over all perfect plant…I had a watering plan for it, if someone else tried to water my succulent I would get so defensive because I just wanted to keep good care of it. I absolutely loved my succulent,” she wrote.
Then she went on to describe her ordeal. “Today I decided it was time to transplant, I found the cutest vase, that suited it perfectly. I go to pull it from the original plastic container it was purchased with to learn this plant was FAKE,” she expressed. Caelie further said, “I put so much love into this plant! I washed it’s leaves. Tried my hardest to keep it looking it’s best, and it’s completely plastic! How did I not know this. I pull it from the container it’s sitting on Styrofoam with sand glued to the top!” She ended the post with, “I feel like these last two years have been a lie.”

Netizens all over the world are amused with this intriguing twist ro the story. But when I read her words, it just reminded me of, well, my love life. And I think it wouldn’t be me alone, sinking into the depths of (ironically) the shallow dating world.
I am someone who invests a lot in relationships. I don’t believe in being petty or loving half-heartedly. I am the kind of idiot they make all those relationship quotes for. You know the kind that remind you to stop crossing oceans for people who won’t even jump puddles for you.
I have been there, done that – watering a relationship, just to find out that his love was plastic. I gave it love and I protected it with all my heart. But what can you do? There’s really no guarantee that if you love enough, things will last.
In fact, I think right now a lot of us have been simply watering the succulents of romance in our lives in our own way. The time you’ve been investing on chatting up that guy you met on a dating app requires effort. The effort you take to dress up for a first date, the way you push yourself to get past a fight or a disappointment in a relationship, the things you do for the guy you like oh-so-selflessly – these are all examples of us going out of our way and giving out love and warmth.
