Exclusive: Nia Sharma Shares Her Views On Marriage, The Man She Is ‘Not’ Looking For, And More

In discussions about today’s youth and marriage, it’s often mentioned that they are less inclined to believe in traditional marriage and may opt to leave a relationship at the first sign of minor difficulty. However, what’s overlooked is that individuals in this generation are unwilling to be subservient to others, even if it means ending a relationship. In a candid conversation with Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist, Naagin star Nia Sharma openly discusses her views on marriage, relationships, and the qualities she does not seek in a potential partner.

Nia Sharma who is known for her roles in shows like Naagin and Jamai Raja, has never shied away from discussing the challenges faced by women in today’s society. When questioned about her perspective on people, especially women, attempting to fit into society’s predefined roles, Nia responded with incredible strength and validity. She said, “I don’t know a single person who’s trying to conform to these outdated stereotypes.” If you pose such a question to a girl today, she might just punch you in the face. And that’s precisely why relationships are falling apart.” According to Nia, in the past, one partner, mostly the woman, had to make compromises. However, the dynamics have changed today. Both partners need their space, and when their paths collide, neither is willing to bow down. Consequently, they opt to part ways, a decision Nia believes is entirely acceptable.

She further elaborates on the topic, saying, “The parameter was always that the man would provide and the woman would take care of, pick his shoes up and iron his clothes, and this is the conditioning we have grown accustomed to, but in today’s time, being married is a different definition altogether because women today are not fitting into the box the society has made, and it’s not going to happen anymore. You have to respect the woman she is. If she is a working woman, you have to respect that. You cannot tell her that if you get married tomorrow and that you’re delivering a baby, you have to stop working and the man is going to provide for you and everything.”

She strongly emphasized, “If someone like me is put in the same situation, I would be extremely shocked and overwhelmed and would be in a coma, And if somebody is not going to get married to me because I like my work more and my independence, then it is what it is because I worked very hard for it.”

Nia also talked about how there is a stereotype of women people look for when thinking of marriage, someone who is a good girl, who is working a job and who doesn’t go out of the house and she is looked at as someone of a rebellious nature, out of which nothing is true about her.
