Dr Manmohan Singh is greatly recognised for his contribution to getting India out of an economic crisis as Finance Minister after Narasimha Rao took over as the Prime Minister in 1991.

Dr Manmohan Singh was the first Non-Hindu Prime Minister of India.

In 1993, he was honoured with the title of "Best Finance Minister Of The Year" by Euromoney.
