Yudhra Review: Even Siddhant Chaturvedi, Raghav Juyal Couldn’t Save This Mindless Action Film!
The Siddhant Chaturvedi, Malvika Mohanan starrer Yudhra is directed by Ravi Udyawar. Read our review here.

I don’t mind a good action film, but only if it comes with a plot. My latest action-thriller watch was Yudhra starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Malvika Mohanan. The film is directed by Ravi Udyawar, and written by Shridhar Raghavan. Farhan Akhtar and Akshat Ghildial penned the dialogues for the film. It also stars Raghav Juyal, Gajraj Rao, Ram Kapoor and Raj Arjun in pivotal roles. The story of Yudhra is a cliche plot that revolves around the protagonist uncovering India’s biggest drug cartel. The movie has a lot of action sequences, a very angry Siddhant Chaturvedi, some romance and some questionable tracks. However, is it an action film that I would strongly recommend you to watch? I doubt and here’s a detailed review of the good and bad in Yudhra.
Story
Yudhra Rathode (Siddhant Chaturvedi) is born to an honest police officer but his birth turns into a tragic loss after his parents die in an unfortunate accident. Yudhra is taken care of by a senior police officer Kartik Rathore (Gajraj Rao). However, Yudhra and Kartik don’t share a loving father-son bond after the former learns about his biological parents. From a young age, Yudhra suffers from severe anger issues but only behaves well around his childhood friend Nikhat (Malvika Mohanan).
He grows up to be a spoilt brat and on the suggestion of Kartik Rathod’s close friend Rehman (Ram Kapoor), he joins a defence academy in Pune. However, he is court-martialed from there after a fight. and that’s when Rehman gives Yudhra a purpose in life. Both of them closely work to bring down a drug cartel led by Firoz (Raj Arjun) and his son Shafiq (Raghav Juyal). But the twist happens when Yudhra discovers that his motive is not just professional but deeply personal too!

Good
Few Performances
Siddhant Chaturvedi as Yudhra Rathod is convincing for the most part. It was refreshing to see him play an all-in-all action hero in the film. The actor is outstanding in action sequences. Siddhant pulled off the angry young man’s look effortlessly but he was equally charming as the innocent man clueless about love and romance. Siddhant Chaturvedi reminded us of his skills as an actor, but alas, deserved a better script!
Raghav Juyal was a big surprise in Kill and the actor’s character in Yudhra somewhat gives the same vibes, but, I don’t have any complaints. Raghav yet again delivers the part with conviction but the best part was that he brought a comic relief to the plot. All credit to him for having us giggle a little and take a break from the OTT action in the film.
Malvika Mohanan gets to do some swift action sequences in the film, and her character is portrayed as an intelligent one. However, the actor’s performance was underwhelming, especially in the first half where Nikhat was shown as the bubbly and happy girl.
Ram Kapoor, Gajraj Rao and Raj Arjun as supporting actors were also well-fitted in their respective roles.
Bad
No Continuity In The Plot
Yudhra leaves you with a lot of questions about the practicality of the plot. There are abrupt cuts in the plot which ends up making the story unreasonable and shallow. While there are many such moments that I found vague and loosely blended with the primary premise, the one that I’d happily point out is in an action sequence in Portugal. Both Yudhra and Nikhat fight for their lives against Shafiq and his men. After an exhausting action sequence, we are transported to Nikhat confronting Yudhra about some truths that the latter hid from her, and the next moment the two are romancing on a beach. I mean…how can I take a film seriously if it tries too hard to make us believe in a story that holds no ground?
Cliche Drug Cartel Story
Yudhra is another cliche story that focuses on making the film an action thriller with the same redundant elements that we’ve already seen in a lot of action films. The same drug cartel plot with layers of romance and personal motives for the protagonist is nothing fresh that we have already seen. And top of that, the film’s plot is also very forced and all over the place.
Unnecessary Song Additions
It’s high time that makers stop serving us films which has random song additions to break the continuity of the plot (which in this case was missing anyway). Also, the music of this film is not impressive at all, moreover, it’s funny. The romantic track titled Saathiya is a soulful song however I could hardly feel the chemistry between Siddhant Chaturvedi and Malvika Mohanan.
Too Much Action
The action sequences in the film are good, but there are too many of them. So much so that it looked stretched and I was exhausted by the end of it. Since the plot had already failed to catch my attention, the action only made it worse and tiring.
Verdict: Siddhant Chaturvedi Is Impressive But That’s Not Enough!
Yudhra is a failed attempt to create an engaging and thrilling action film. The actors especially the lead, Siddhant Chaturvedi prove his potential as an action hero, however, the performances are overshadowed by a meh plot. The lack of continuity in the plot and abrupt cuts make the film a forgettable watch. The chemistry between Siddhant Chaturvedi and Malvika Mohanan does not leave us wanting more of it, which was quite surprising. There is also no shock value in the film because of the cliche elements that are put together to build the story of Yudhra. The action scenes are well-directed but it was an overdose also. The film has already hit the theatres, so decide accordingly!
