The Mehta Boys Review: Boman Irani, Avinash Tiwary Shine In This Raw And Honest Film On Father-Son Relationship
hauterrfly Rating: 4 / 5

As we get older, we often spend less time with our parents. This is especially true for dads and sons, who sometimes have a hard time connecting. We hear a lot about how close dads are to their daughters, or moms to their sons, but the bond between fathers and sons can be different. They might not talk about everything, and they can have lots of arguments. That’s what the film The Mehta Boys is all about. It shows a real and honest picture of this kind of relationship. Directed by Boman Irani, it stars himself, Avinash Tiwary, Shreya Chaudhry and Puja Sarup in prominent roles.

Plot Of The Mehta Boys

A young architect named Amay, struggling both professionally and personally, faces a double blow. The recent loss of his mother has left a void in his life, and now he’s forced to spend two whole days with the one person he clashes with most—his father. Their relationship is strained and lacks empathy and understanding. Well, Amay’s professional life isn’t much better. He doesn’t think he’s good enough and lacks confidence. He doubts his own abilities, and it’s holding him back. Luckily, he has a supportive and understanding colleague named Zara.

She sees how talented Amay is, even when he can’t see it himself. Zara encourages him to believe in himself and helps him to grow professionally. Zara becomes a bridge between them and helps Amay understand his father’s perspective and encourages him to see the man beyond the grumpy exterior. The two days together seem like a huge hurdle. Will Amay give in to his insecurities and continue to clash with his dad? Or will this time together, along with Zara’s help, actually bring them closer? Will Amay finally start believing in himself and fix his relationship with his father? Will this difficult time actually help them understand each other better and bring them closer together, or will it just turn into another mess? Well, I can’t reveal the entire plot here. You better watch the film; it’s a nice one!

Performances

Boman Irani: It’s understandable why Boman Irani won the best actor award at the International Film Festival of South Asia for his role in The Mehta Boys. He is, as always, a fantastic actor. He plays the dad so well and shows all the different sides of his character. He shows how the dad struggles to talk about his feelings and connect with his son. From the frustrated scenes to him sharing a nice space with his son, it’s both sad and heartwarming to watch. What’s even more exciting is that Boman Irani directed the film too!

Avinash Tiwary: Even though he hasn’t been in many films, he has already shown that he’s a great actor. He just keeps proving his skills and that he’s here to stay. In this film, he portrays the role of the son and shows how frustrated he is and how much he wants to connect with his dad beautifully. It was natural and honest! He makes the son’s struggles feel real and relatable.

Shreya Chaudhry: She is wonderful as Zara. She’s strong, but in a very silent manner. Zara is not just a companion; she’s really supportive of Amay. She pushes him to believe in himself and helps him deal with his difficult relationship with his dad. It was beautiful to watch how even though the story revolves around the father and son, her role becomes equally important and shows how a little push is essential.

Verdict: A Heart Touching Portrayal Of A Father And Son’s Relationship

It’s not just about a father and son arguing; it’s about trying to understand each other. The film shows how important it is to have empathy for family members. It tries to make you understand that if parents and children try harder to see things from each other’s point of view, things would be much better. It’s a story that anyone who has ever struggled to connect with someone they love will understand. It isn’t just about the problems between a father and son; it’s about how they can grow and heal their relationship. Avinash Tiwary and Boman Irani deliver amazing performances and bring their characters to life with raw emotion. Shreya Chaudhry shines as the supportive companion and colleague. In addition to his stellar performance as the father, Boman Irani also directs the film with a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of human emotions.

The story itself is simple and subtle and focuses on the everyday moments and unspoken tensions that define many family relationships. There are no over-the-top, dramatic moments, but rather a quiet unfolding of emotions and a beautiful exploration of the characters’ and how they feel. While the film’s slow pace might not suit everyone, you can witness a deeper dive into the characters lives. The story takes its time to develop, which might not be what everyone likes. The cinematography is natural and understated. It avoids flashy techniques and instead opts for a more observational approach. Hence, the story and the characters become the primary focus. Conclusion: It’s a heartwarming and thought-provoking film. Must watch!
