The hooting and cheering when Mission Impossible’s background score echoed inside the theatre still plays in my ears. Yes, after years of waiting for this moment, we finally experienced it last night and witnessed the glorious end to the almost 30-year-long legacy of Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning is bigger, larger and grander than one would imagine, and while the 3-hour-long film comes with an evident set of flaws, the film also has moments that will leave you gasping for breath and keep you on the edge of your seat. Read the short review to know more.
Plot
Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) returns in Mission Impossible- The Final Reckoning with only one mission, and that is to destroy the entity. Hunt is here to protect the world and is determined to finish the entity from its source, only that the mission this time is dangerous than before. In the last film of the franchise, Tom Cruise is seen searching the depths of the oceans as well as fighting in the air, basically, he is doing it all. He has a team in this fight against the entity, and Gabriel (Esai Morales), who wants to take control of the entity. Grace (Hayley Atwell), Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames), Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), and Paris (Pom Klementieff) help Hunt on his mission. Angela Bassett is seen in the role of US President.
What I Liked?
Of course, Tom Cruise! That man has not aged at all, and he looked perfect in every scene. Tom Cruise is hailed for bringing some of the best action scenes to life on-screen, and he did that all over again. The actor shines in the film throughout and pulls off each action scene like a piece of cake. Like, it’s unsaid!
There are some scenes that are stuck in my mind, and I bet it’s not just me. The underwater scene kept me hooked to the level where I forgot about the various problems in my life. The scene was majestic and an experience that cannot be explained in words. It felt like I was not just watching the scene, but was a part of it. Even some hand-to-hand combat in the film was choreographed beautifully.
Apart from the action sequences, some hard-hitting moments made me jump from my seat and some that got me emotional. However, these scenes come and go in the blink of an eye. Even the callbacks were quite nostalgic, and I could hear all sorts of emotions from the boys sitting next to me. They were having a good time at the movies! Forgot that it was the whole point!

What I Did Not Enjoy!
The second half of Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning was much better than the first. Most of the dramatic and extraordinary scenes were kept for the post-interval. However, the first half was slow, dragged and a little boring too. The buildup did not feel that great, and the plot was all over the place. There was a lot to be done in the final film of the franchise, and that did not leave room for an engaging storyline. I also found myself restless because the film felt stretched too. The film feels good only in bits and pieces, and that’s sad because I expected more.
Especially, an action sequence in the air was unnecessarily stretched. The entire Gabriel sub-plot in the film was done to its best potential and felt half-baked. Even the supporting characters in the film deserved better writing.
Verdict
Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning is an average watch, but since the bar was high, this does not feel like the perfect end. The plot and characters are underwhelming. And there is too much happening in the film, so it only feels engaging in bits, like I said earlier. There are some wow moments, but there are also some skip moments. Tom Cruise, the legend, is flawless as always. So if you’re a fan, do watch the star’s charm on the big screen for the one last time! Ethan Hunt, you have our heart!
