Life Hill Gayi Review: Divyenndu, Kusha Kapila Deliver Outstanding Performance In This Slow-Burn Comedy
hauterrfly Rating: 3.5 / 5

Starring Divyenndu, Kusha Kapila, Mukti Mohan, Kabir Bedi and Vinay Pathak in lead roles,  Life Hill Gayi will be released on the OTT platform, Disney+Hotstar on August 9. Honestly, after binge-watching this series, I am a bit confused because there are so many questions I’m left with. It has beautifully portrayed human relationships, the chaotic side of siblings and the ultimate drama between city lovers and villagers. However, I’m certainly not fond of its abrupt ending and wonder if it’s going to have a part 2. Directed by Prem Mistry, this sibling drama is written by Shakir Ali, Suprith Kundar and Jasmeet Singh Bhatia. Well, if you were looking forward to this chaotic sibling drama, here’s our review to help you make a decision.

The Plot Of Life Hill Gayi

The narrative centres around a grandfather, played by Kabir Bedi, who entrusts his two grandchildren, portrayed by Divyenndu and Kusha Kapila, with the significant task of renovating his hotel, aka Good Morning Woods Villa, situated in the serene location of Panchmoli. A sequence of misfortunes and comedic blunders happens as the grandchildren embark on the journey to renovate the villa and encounter numerous obstacles which result in a pool of comedic errors along with a lighthearted atmosphere. Divyenndu, renowned for his impeccable comedic timing, and Kusha Kapila, showcasing her distinctive charm on the screen, these siblings will go to any lengths to achieve the ultimate prize. Their quirky dynamics take a turn into a competitive rivalry as they engage in the inheritance race as they try to restore the haunted hillside hotel. However, amidst the chaos, Divyenndu finds himself in love with a villager, Mukti Mohan. As romantic as it sounds, their love story isn’t like that. Mishaps occur, and fights happen, but will they be able to sustain their relationship? Well, I’m not someone who gives away spoilers. City-loving brothers and sisters trying to settle down in the serene panchmoli and giving their best to impress the villagers in order to fix up a rundown hotel in the hills. Who do you think will win in the end? Well, it’s safe to say, it’s a war between loved ones!

Performances

Divyenndu As Dev: Divyenndu effortlessly embodied the character of a funny and smart city guy and showcased his acting skills with finesse. His on-screen presence was striking and I couldn’t keep my eyes off him. Furthermore,  his dialogue delivery was impeccable and he made it seem very realistic and natural. As a humorous character, his comedic timing was spot-on and not to forget his dad jokes, I loved them. Watching him on screen is always a wonderful experience and it was the same as he brought charm and humour to his character. Can’t believe this sweet boy is the same one who portrayed the terrific role of Munna Bhai, well, that’s what makes him a great actor!

Kusha Kapila As Kalki: Kusha Kapila truly nailed her job in portraying the role of a spirited and ambitious woman with sassiness. Her acting was top-notch, and she appeared completely natural in her character. This makes me wonder if she is the same sassy person IRL because I loved her character. She brought a sort of energy to the role and was determined to win the task. Having said that, her fashion game was so on point!

Mukti Mohan As Hima: Mukti portrayed the role of a simple and intelligent woman, who loves her village from the bottom of her heart. The actress brings warmth to her character which is amazing because I felt connected with her so many times. Her onscreen presence looked very authentic to me and oh boy! She was a dream in those Pahadi traditional outfits. Not to forget, Mukti and Divyenndu’s chemistry was like a breath of fresh air. They are adorable together!

Kabir Bedi As Dadu:  Despite Kabir Bedi having limited screen time in the series, he truly shined with his performance! He’s the one who binds the story together and does a good job of portraying a cool image of Indian grandfathers.

Vinay Pathak As Dev And Kalki’s Dad:  Well, Vinay’s character was as sassy and cool as his kids. His comedic timing was apt and we could see the change in this character evidently. He showed the raw emotions of being a dad and a friend effortlessly!

Supporting Cast: I can’t not mention the stellar performances of the supporting cast. They were phenomenal! Hemant Pandey, Atul Srivastava and others, all added depth and authenticity to the story with their performances. Each actor brought something special to their role and made the series more engaging and enjoyable to watch. Overall, the supporting cast contributed positively to the series and somehow shined brighter than the lead characters!

Verdict: Actors Shine Bright In This Slow-Paced Comedy

Well, this series deserves a chance to be watched as it presents a heartwarming and quirky sibling drama filled with moments that touch the heart. It’s quirky and represents the reality of having ups and downs with your siblings. If you have siblings, could give it a chance as it will feel a lot relatable to you. Moreover, the serene beauty of Uttarakhand portrayed in the film acts as a mesmerizing backdrop which totally enhances the storytelling. Talking about their performances, the actors have done a splendid job and brought their characters to life with genuine emotions. The cinematographers beautifully captured the essence of Uttarakhand, the authentic village ambience and the spooky vibe.

Furthermore, I have to mention the lovely chemistry between Mukti Mohan and Divyenndu on screen, they added a special charm to the series and honestly, their interactions were a joy to watch. However, we are not sure about the ending and NGL we are disappointed! Well, the series has six episodes, and sometimes it felt like a lot was going on and the makers tried to fit everything in each episode. The subplots may have diverted the attention from the actual plot, but I have no clue as to what happened.  Also, the pace of the story was quite slow which made me yawn a bit and drift away. However, the supporting cast kept the show on and brought me back to the Good Morning Woods Villa. Honestly, it has a good storyline backed with stellar acting but will leave you confused as well, however, you can give it a shot!
