Ishq Vishk Rebound: 10 Honest Thoughts On Rohit Saraf, Pashmina Roshan, Jibraan Khan’s Too Good To Be True Gen Z Romance!
hauterrfly Rating: 1.5 / 5

The idea of love, friendship and relationship is very subjective and I respect it. However, if my friend behaves immaturely, childishly and naively regarding these three aspects of life, I also do not step back from sharing my honest opinion with them. Well, on that very note, here’s me being brutally honest about the Gen Z romance drama Ishq Vishk Rebound that hit the theatres today morning! It stars Rohit Saraf, Pashmina Roshan, Jibraan Khan and Naila Grrewal. Nipun Dharmadhikari has directed this movie which is produced under the banner of Tips Films. Now, I am having a hard time collecting each of my thoughts to tell you how desperately this film needed a good script, good acting, and well some sense. But I would be highly disappointed in myself if I didn’t end up sharing my feelings on this much-awaited film. So read on before you make your weekend watch list!

1. A ‘What The Heck Is Happening’ Script!

I kid you not, from the beginning till the end of the film, chalo barring one or two scenes, my facial expression was exactly how one would react to the idea of getting back with their ex! I went to the theatres with the thought that this light-hearted film on friendship, life and romance would give me escapism from the dull single life I’ve been leading, but all I could think about was how to quickly escape from the theatre when the movie ended. The storyline of Ishq Vishk Rebound is scattered, and the audience is not made to feel connected with any of the characters. All we know is that Raghav (Rohit Saraf), Sanya (Pashmina Roshan), and Sahir (Jibraan Khan) are best friends, and among them, Sahir and Sanya are dating. But within a few minutes into the film, Raghav’s character starts dating Sanya! Their life and the story move at a speed of 1.5X because the script conveniently ignores the idea of building on a storyline! Breakups and patch-ups are happening randomly, if nothing, a song pops up from nowhere. You don’t even get a moment to understand any character and their choices!

2. Who Ends Up Having A Rebound With Childhood Bestie?

Leave other things aside, this is another personal thought that stuck with me while watching Ishq Vishk Rebound. How small can one’s friend circle be that you end up ruining it entirely by going for a rebound with your best friend’s ex? And God forbid, if it happens in real life, the complexities and hatred can turn ugly unlike how the film perceives it to be!

3. Where Was Naila Grrewal In The Film?

Sadly, a decent performer like her was kaafi underutilised in Ishq Vishk Rebound. However, the interesting thing to note here is that her character Riya is shown to be mature while making questionable decisions in life, especially her romantic relationship. If given a chance and some more screen presence in the film, Riya could have been more convincing!

4. Rohit Saraf Couldn’t Save It!

Rohit Saraf is a fine actor and he has proved his craft in various films. And that’s why his performance in the film felt average and was overshadowed by the poor script and cinematography. In some scenes, the actor’s charm can impress you, especially where Raghav engages one-on-one with the audience. However, since his character deals with the problem of shallow writing, the actor couldn’t showcase much of his emotions. But there is an annoyed face that Rohit Saraf pulls off smoothly in many scenes, and trust me, I relate hard to it. It’s pretty much the only thing in the film that I found relatable!

5. Pashmina Roshan’s Debut Fails To Impress!

While Pashmina Roshan’s Sanya is adorable and all, there are many moments in the film where the actor’s dialogue delivery is not up to the mark and even expressions!

6. Audience IQ Was Not Taken Into Consideration!

With OTT opening the door to a plethora of films and series, the expectations of Indian audiences have also evolved to a greater extent. While a love story and romance are likeable to most of us, it should also have some sense to it, or at least a convincing storytelling. My whole point is that either you serve a story that seems to be dreamy but interesting enough to sit through or give us something that we find relatable!

7. The Songs Are Nice Except For One!

I will be honest, I have enjoyed all the remakes in Ishq Vishk Rebound. My personal favourites are the title song and ‘Soni Soni’. However, I have an opposite opinion on the remake of ‘Gore Gore Mukhde Pe’.

8. Jibraan Khan Was Surprisingly Good!

Well, the trailer does not do justice to what Jibraan Khan brings to the table in Ishq Vishk Rebound. He delivers an impressive performance but then again, his character had nothing much to play with in the film. However, that does not stop Jibraan from showing his potential as an actor!

9. Cameos Woke Me Up!

Kusha Kapila makes a small cameo in Ishq Vishk Rebound as Raghav’s boss. Her comic timing was a relief to the bland story. Sheeba Chadda’s screen presence for a brief is heartwarming. She has a conversation with Raghav on how important it is to put effort into a relationship and that’s a conversation, I appreciate!

10. Director’s Vision Is Lost!

Direction is like a steering wheel that is majorly responsible for a film and Ishq Vishk Rebound fails in this aspect too! The vision is unclear, and the flow of storytelling is abrupt.

Verdict!

Ishq Vishk Rebound releases in theatres on June 21, and I have said enough for you to decide whether to watch the film or not because this one is not for the mature audience!
