Highway Love Season 2 Review: Ritwik Sahore And Gayatri Bhardwaj Starrer Has Chemistry But No Refreshing Storyline
hauterrfly Rating: 3 / 5

Amid all the thriller and action films and series, Highway Love Season 2 comes out as a breath of fresh air. Directed by Sahil Raza, it stars Ritwik Sahore, Gayatri Bhardwaj, Vvansh S Sethi, Gunit Cour, Kanupriya Pandit, Max Fernandes, Rohan Khurana, and Sumiet Subhash Arora in pivotal roles. This lighthearted love story focuses on a modern couple as they navigate various relationship challenges. Even though the plot leans heavily on clichés and makes it quite predictable, the chemistry between the lead cast and supporting cast is admirable! Season 1 of Highway Love was also dependent on the actors’ performance and chemistry, however, it was boring (TBH). After binge-watching season 2, here’s what we think worked out and didn’t work out! Read on to know more.

Plot Of Highway Love Season 2

Kartik (Ritvik Sahore) and Inaaya (Gayatri Bhardwaj) decide to take a big step in their relationship by moving in together. This decision feels like a natural process for them because of their strong bond. In the beginning, everything seems perfect, and they are excited about starting this new chapter in their lives. However, as they settle into their new home, they quickly realize that living together comes with its own set of challenges. As the story unfolds, misunderstandings begin to creep in. Small disagreements turn into bigger arguments, and they find themselves struggling to communicate effectively. Jealousy also makes its way into the series (Obviously). Due to their insecurities, they start to question each other’s loyalty and intentions which makes them distant.

These issues put a hold on their romance and hurt them and they become more vulnerable. They both want to make things work, but their emotional stability and capacity make it difficult for them to connect as they once did. As they face these obstacles in their relationship, Kartik and Inaaya must learn to trust each other again.  Furthermore, they must decide if they are willing to fight for their love and work through the obstacles in their path. So, will Kartik and Inaaya have their happy ending? Find out on October 4 on Amazon MX Player.

What Works?

Performances: Honestly, I am obsessed with Gayatri’s character. She knows her worth, she’s independent and she knows when she’s wrong and owns it! Ritwik’s portrayal of an insecure, lover boy was fun to watch! Furthermore, what works in this season is the chemistry between the lead characters, which feels genuine and engaging. Their interactions have an authentic feel and make it engaging for the audience. Apart from the lead actor’s chemistry, the camaraderie among the entire cast was fun to watch!

Vvansh S Sethi, Gunit Cour, Kanupriya Pandit, Max Fernandes, Rohan Khurana, and Sumiet Subhash Arora precisely added the fun elements needed. From their playful banter and witty dialogues to their light-hearted and emotional bond, it has a feel-good factor! Additionally, the songs surprised me! The series has some groovy songs that fit well with the romantic atmosphere. Moreover, the pace was managed well and it didn’t seem like the plot was stretched out!

Representation: Another thing I adored the most was their height difference. Kartik being a bit shorter in height than Inaaya filled my heart with joy and warmth. It made me happy to see this representation because it breaks the usual stereotype that the guy is always taller than the girl. More so, the female lead has to manage and look shorter than the actor. However, that wasn’t the case in this series. It added a unique charm to their relationship and depicted that love isn’t about how tall you are but about the connection you share.

What Didn’t Work?

Too Cliche: Even though the series has its charms, the predictability of the storyline or the cliche plots was a drawback. It heavily depended on the familiar storyline and served nothing worth exciting! While the characters are generally charming, they sometimes fall into stereotypical stories that lack depth due to which the story falls flat. Many plot points feel recycled from other romantic dramas, which made the entire experience monotonous. Instead of engaging twists or surprising elements, the series follows a narrative that is easy to anticipate.

Character Arc?: Another drawback was the missing character development. While the lead characters have good chemistry, their love story at times seems bothersome. It looked very one-dimensional.  So, as a viewer, I wasn’t able to fully invest in their journeys, as the characters didn’t always evolve in meaningful ways throughout the season.

Verdict: Beautiful Chemistry, Cliche Storyline

The best part about the series was the chemistry between Kartik and Inaaya. It was sweet and heartwarming. From their hardships to their romance, it was wholesome to watch! Moreover, the supporting cast did a great job holding the story and making it engaging. However, one of the main issues was the lack of character development throughout the season. Both characters seemed to stay the same, and there were no significant changes or growth in their personalities. This made the story feel a bit obvious, as I could often guess what would happen in the next episode (which I despise). The plot relied on some clichés that we’ve seen in many other shows, which took away from the authentic vibe or feel I craved and took away “originality.”

I mean, if the viewer knows what will happen in the next episode then what’s the point? Moreover, while the love story was enjoyable, it felt like it could have been much deeper and more engaging if the characters had evolved more. All I wanted was for Kartik to be at a stage where he felt secure, however, that wasn’t on the maker’s mind. It just kept worsening. Overall, it was a fun watch, but it left me wishing for more depth and surprising elements in the storyline. In summary, Highway Love Season 2 is a charming option for those looking for a feel-good romantic series amid more intense dramas. It shines in terms of chemistry and humor but it is ruined by the obvious plot. If you’re a fan of light-hearted love stories and don’t mind some clichés, this season is definitely worth checking out!
