‘Enola Holmes 2’ Review: Millie Bobby Brown Is More Fierce In This Sequel. The Engaging Plot Is Cherry On Cake!

I am a Sherlock Holmes fan, a big fan. But it looks like now I no longer remain a true and loyal fan because his little sister Enola has impressed me with her impeccable detective skills yet again. Well, who does not like watching the cases of Sherlock Holmes repeatedly even after knowing how the mystery unfolds in the end? His observation and deduction skills are what each of us wants to learn, but you know what, I guess now is the time to acknowledge the newer generation of the Holmes family. The fierce detective who makes sure that with every case, she lives up to the Holmes name. Also known as the troublemaker, she is none other than Sherlock’s little but not-so-innocent sister, Enola Holmes. The detective is back again as a part of a more engaging plot in the sequel Enola Holmes 2. I was impatiently waiting for it because the first part was quite impressive. Millie Bobby Brown as Enola and Henry Cavill as Sherlock, together on a case give you the adrenaline rush that you were not even prepared for. Now here’s what more I think of this much-awaited detective story.

The movie has been directed by Harry Bradbeer and is based on the Enola Holmes series written by Nancy Springer. It has been produced by Millie Bobby Brown herself.

Plot More Than Just A Mysterious Case!

Perhaps I should explain? Okay, so as usual the movie starts with Enola Holmes running with two policemen behind her. Well, if you are aware of her traits, then you must know that Enola literally falls into trouble every time she is on a case. So well, after Enola’s first successful case as a detective, she went ahead to open her own detective agency, which BTW did not perform as expected. And of course, the reason being that Enola already had a famous big brother in this field, Sherlock. So, you know, why give cases to a little young girl, who looked too naive to solve a mystery? Hunh, jokes on them who thought this. But when Enola least expected, a very intense case was brought to her by a little girl, Bessie, who had faith that Enola was the only one who could find her missing sister Sarah Chapman. As the movie progresses, Enola is met with more obstacles but here wit and of course, the help of her mother, brother, and partner get her rescued each time. The story is woven in a way where Sherlock’s and Enola’s cases actually clash, and the duo’s extraordinary wit and deducing skills finally bring it to a successful conclusion or no, you should see it for yourself. The notable part is that the plot has a reference to the historical revolutionary event Matchgirls’ strike, which was the first-ever industrial revolution led by a woman for women in 1888. So, that’s where it becomes more than just a simple detective story, and shows you what women are capable of! Now, see for yourself how Enola overcomes and solves this mystery herself with some help of course.

Characters, Actors, And Their Effortless Performances

Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes is a delight to watch. She absolutely shines in the little short monologues in between. Millie’s swift and powerful action scenes will surely bring you to the edge of your seats. She nails her character as the fierce troublemaker, and Enola Holmes is a character best suited for her. Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes is just how you expect him to be. He has a significant amount of screen presence and puts forth an outstanding performance. Louis Patridge, who is now Lord Teweksbery has become a reformist in Enola Holmes 2 and the actor displays maturity in his acting too. Although this time the character did not have much to contribute to Enola’s case but in his own way he does. Helena Bonham Carter as Enola’s mother, Hannah Dodd as Sarah, Susan Wokoma as Edith, Adeel Akhtar as Lestrade, and Serrana Su-Ling Bliss as Bessie have done justice to their roles. Even if their parts were not major, the actors made sure that their performances is noteworthy in the film.

Final Verdict

Enola Holmes 2 is one detective movie that I believe has all components to not make you feel bored or disinterested even for a second. The plot moves so fast and smoothly that it becomes one of the major reasons to not break your attention. Enola and Sherlock on a crime together will build your excitement only to make you realise how cleverly the story has been woven. The background score also adds up to the thrill. The editing of the movie is quite unusual because it makes sure to give you many elements of surprise. There are enough twists and turns in the case, which makes it more lively and fun to watch. The fact that the plot has a real-life incident too that many of us will not even be aware of is a much-appreciated addition to the storyline. The clarity in characters and their development in the sequel of Enola Holmes is an added bonus. The weekend is here and you would not want to miss this great movie, that too when it is available in the comfort of your home. Enola Holmes 2 is currently streaming on the OTT platform Netflix.
