I have watched enough good and bad films to call Bhai Tera Star Hai one of the most embarrassing films to date. The film is directed by Vivek B Agrawal and stars Raghav Juyal in the lead. Now, it’s understandable to have some hopes from it, but unfortunately Bhai Tera Star Hai turns out to be one of those rare sights where Raghav Juyal is intolerable too. Plot
Raghav Juyal’s Ajay is a struggling actor who has a lot of debt on him. He tries to come up with random excuses to collect the amount, but that only leads to more confusion and chaos among other characters on the streets of London. Niharika NM as Roshni is Ajay’s cool girlfriend, Sanjay Kapoor as Fatty is the bar owner whose money Ajay owes, Vivan Bhatena plays Roshni’s brother Sid, and Barkha Singh is his love interest. Vikalp Mehta as JD is Fatty’s right-hand, responsible for getting the money from Ajay. All these characters are interrelated, and the plot connects their stories in the end.
What’s Wrong?
Story
A plot more difficult to comprehend than a Nolan film, and for all the wrong reasons. Bhai Tera Star attempts to qualify as a comedy of errors or dark comedy genre, but it ends up making a new category for itself, and we call it the forgettable category. The plot is lost, and there is nothing substantial in the story, to the point where you start questioning the existence of the events that take place. It tries too hard but delivers neither emotions nor laughter. In fact, there are several hints in the film to convince you that the story forgets where it wants to be, what it wants to do!
To give each character some screen time in the film, scenes are stretched, unfunny or random relationship-heavy conversations are sandwiched into the storyline, forcing you to ask, “why?” several times during the duration of the film. On a side note, there isn’t one interesting character in the film that you would want to remember. Whether it’s the struggling actor, ego-induced man, attractive ex-girlfriend, potential girlfriend, girlfriend, bar owner, sidekicks, and so on and so forth. That also reminds me that the female characters in the film don’t have much personality, other than the description mentioned earlier.
Performances
The characters are so poorly written that actors can do no miracle to save them. Cringe dialogues and below-average situational comedy only end up making each character look unnecessarily loud and exaggerated. The overdramatic performances only add to the exhaustion. The charm of Raghav Juyal’s perfect comic timing doesn’t work here.
Bhai Tera Star Hai is very text- and animation-heavy, and they only work as a distraction, without being any kind of a wow factor. The film has many songs, and the choreography for each of them is equally mediocre. Talk about ways in which Raghav Juyal’s potential goes wasted; this film will certainly be remembered for that!
Verdict
Raghav Juyal’s Bhai Tera Star Hai is not a fun time at the movies; it’s the opposite of that!
