After a long wait, Shanaya Kapoor, daughter of actor Sanjay Kapoor and Maheep Kapoor, has finally made her debut with Vikrant Massey in the romantic drama Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, directed by Santosh Singh. The trailer and songs had created quite a buzz on the internet. So, is it exactly what it promised? Read our review to know all about it.
Plot Of Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan
The film introduces us to Saba (Shanaya Kapoor), a passionate theatre artist who dreams of making it big in Bollywood. On the other hand, we have Jahaan (Vikrant Massey), a talented blind musician working hard to make a name for himself. Inspired by Ruskin Bond’s delightful story ‘The Eyes Have It,’ the film revolves around how Saba and Jahaan’s lives become intertwined during a train journey.
So, what happens is, to truly get into character for an audition, Saba decides to travel to Mussoorie by train while blindfolded. During this journey, she meets Jahaan, a visually impaired musician, in the same compartment. Their conversations soon turn into something deeper as they share their lives and dreams and learn a lot from each other. Due to a series of unexpected circumstances, Saba ends up living in the same room as Jahaan, and it’s here that their bond truly deepens.
They have their share of arguments and sweet moments. However, their story takes a sad turn when Jahaan suddenly leaves Saba and disappears without a trace.
After three years, destiny brings them back together. The twist? Saba has never actually seen Jahaan, so she doesn’t know what he looks like. But when she meets a new musician at a club, she gets a feeling that this person is none other than Jahaan. Will their paths cross again? And will they finally get their happy ending? As always, I don’t spoil the mood.
Performances
Vikrant Massey as Jahaan is a natural. He effortlessly pulls off the role and delivers his one-liners with an ease that often made me chuckle. However, there were a few moments where his dialogues felt a little too poetic. While not entirely bothersome, it did bother me at times. Shanaya Kapoor, in her debut as Saba, was good. She pulled off her role with great honesty and surely has a long way to go. The supporting cast also did a decent job with the material they were given. Now, let’s talk about the chemistry. For me, the spark between Vikrant and Shanaya just wasn’t there. I couldn’t feel a strong connection between them. Also, the songs in the movie are genuinely good and definitely elevate the overall vibe.
Verdict: Shanaya Kapoor, Vikrant Massey’s Honest Performances Can’t Fix This Trainwreck
Is it all good? Well, no! So, let’s talk about the things that went wrong. The execution, the storyline, the entire thing felt like a chaotic mess. Even the genuine performances of the actors couldn’t save it. At one point, I found myself genuinely questioning what was happening on screen. The entire thing felt unnecessarily stretched, and some sequences felt utterly pointless, and also the cuts were quite irritating.

Furthermore, the “emotional scenes,” I kid you not, actually made me laugh. It all went completely haywire, and I started wondering about other things. Seriously, I found myself thinking about what I’d have for dinner instead of the film. Conclusion: Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan touched neither my heart nor my soul.
It’s currently running in theatres near you. Are you going to watch it?
