Delhi Woman Reports A Sexual Harassment Case On Twitter, Says Police On Ground Failed To Help!
Is there a day when a girl is not harassed, eve-teased, or stared at? No, I think. Most of us keep ignoring such incidents, but there is a limit to our tolerance. People go to extreme lengths to harass a girl because they think we are not vocal enough to speak about it. But that is clearly not the case. Social media has to a great extent empowered girls to report and speak about it publicly, and it also grabs quick attention from the authorities. Women still hesitate to efficiently use this platform, however in this case, it is different. A shameful incident was reported by a woman from Delhi on Twitter about being harassed on the Delhi Metro and not getting help from the responsible authorities.
The woman took to Twitter to report harassment in the Delhi metro. On Thursday, the girl in a detailed Twitter thread reported the entire incident, particularly mentioning that she does not tweet much. However, the matter was so disturbing that she had to speak about it. The girl went ahead to narrate the details of the incident which took place in the Jor Bagh metro station. She claims that the culprit, on the pretext of asking about an address, tried talking to her. While she was checking the file for the address, the man flashed her, not just once but thrice. She wrote in her tweets that none of the policemen helped her in this situation. She tagged many authorities in the post like the Delhi CM, DCP of Delhi, and even the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The tweet was in no time acknowledged by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation(DMRC). In a response to this incident, the DMRC asked the girl for the exact timing of the incident and requested for the matter to be immediately reported to a metro staff. They also went ahead to provide the DMRC and CISF helpline numbers.

It is deeply disheartening that the authorities present on the ground failed to understand the gravity of the situation. Even if the culprit ran away, the policemen could have tried chasing or tracing him. The girl might have been terrified and her tweet clearly shows it, however, the insensitive approach of the policemen did nothing but added to the trauma. To attract attention to such cases, social media is the platform it seems.
