Woman Crashes Cannes Film Festival, Strips And Screams On Red Carpet In Ukraine Colours
While writing and reading as many Cannes Film Festival stories as I have, the most I have to expect out of them are innovative fashion looks, statements by the celebs who are attending or something related to the films being screened there. However, the world is full of surprises and Cannes is no different. Recently, a video of a woman going topless as a protest at the festival is going viral. All this happened at the debut of Three Thousand Years of Longing starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton.
On Friday, May 20, George Miller’s Three Thousand Years of Longing, starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton, premiered at Cannes 2022. The movie is a sequel to Mad Max: Fury Road. The red carpet celebration, however, was disturbed when a woman barged in, stripped off her clothes on the red carpet, and began shouting until she was hauled out. Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton walked the red carpet for the Cannes premiere of their film, Three Thousand Years of Longing, alongside Idris’ wife Sabrina Dhowre Elba and director George Miller.

An unnamed woman stormed into the scene and began yelling just as the stars of Three Thousand Years of Longing began walking the red carpet. She then peeled off her clothes on the red carpet and screamed. She appeared to be wearing Ukrainian flag-coloured body paint with the words “stop raping us” inscribed on her upper torso. Around her lower tummy and thighs, she appeared to have red paint palm prints. She also had the word ‘scum’ scrawled in body paint across her lower back.

The woman was protesting against the sexual violence that Ukrainian women are being subjected to amidst the Ukraine – Russia conflict. Cannes security came in, wrapped her in a coat, and led her away from the red carpet. “This activist exposed the war rapes and sexual torture committed on Ukrainian women by Russian soldiers,” the radical feminist organisation Scum said on Twitter after seeing a video of the incident.
