About Bella Hadid’s Lyme Disease

Lyme disease begins when the bacterium is contracted by the bite of a black-legged tick and is then transmitted by the tick. If left untreated, Lyme disease can spread to the joints, heart, and even the brain. Some common symptoms of the disease include headaches, fatigue, fever, chills, bull’s eye rash, swollen and painful joints, and advanced stages, neurological issues such as facial paralysis, tingling, and memory loss. Risk factors include going outside without repellent or tick-proof clothes, as well as failing to check for ticks following outdoor activities.

The most common treatments are oral antibiotics such as amoxicillin and doxycycline. In more advanced cases, intravenous antibiotics may be required. Symptom management may also include physical therapy, supportive care, and pain medications. To limit risk, check for ticks after outdoor activities, use repellent, and wear clothes that cover your arms and legs.
