UP Government Official Arrested For Repeatedly Sexually Assaulting Female Employee, Video Goes Viral
Women with careers who have worked hard to reach where they know that it isn’t an easy feat. Regardless of what we say regarding feminism, we still live in a society that is misogynistic in nature and largely caters to men and their conveniences. In many cases, the woman’s progress is dependent on the men around her, be it personal or professional. Sexual harassment and sexual assault at workplaces in situations like these are unfortunately very common because of the female employees being dependent on the men around them to keep their job. Such was the case in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh as this administration official was caught assaulting a female employee on camera. The video has gone viral.

Ichcha Ram Yadav is an under-secretary in the Uttar Pradesh administration. The female staffer in the video had already filed an FIR against him on October 29. However, he was not arrested until the videos of the assault went viral, of course! According to NDTV, the woman stated in the FIR that she has been working as a computer operator in the Minority Welfare department since 2013. Ichcha Ram Yadav who was the “section-in-charge” started assaulting her in 2018. They both worked together on the fourth floor of Bapu Bhawan in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He allegedly promised to confirm her job if she allowed the advances and would fire her if she didn’t. He even threatened to kill and destroy her.

The videos show Ichcha constantly forcing himself on the woman as she pushes him away. In one of the videos, he also appears to be kissing her. The videos were shot by a 30-year-old married woman who works at the UP Minority Welfare Department.
It is yet unknown what caused the Uttar Pradesh police to arrest him this late. After the image of Ichcha Ram Yadav behind bars started doing rounds on social media, the netizens have made their disappointment in the police force clear as they questioned what caused the Uttar Pradesh police to wait this long to take action.
The fact that this FIR was filed back in October and no action was taken until now is appalling to me. This is really disappointing and the Uttar Pradesh police have let the citizens down. After all, if not police, who else are we commonfolk going to rely on for safety?
