Twitter User Highlights Tweets With Sexist Slurs Against Female Politicians. It’s A Reminder Of How Men Abuse Women In Power!

Twitter is a place where people come to write their opinions and freely speak their minds. And, well, this social media platform has been a great source of information too. When you are lost, Twitter can be your go-to social media to know what is happening in the world, sometimes it can also help you form opinions as well. But then, some Twitter users tend to make this space a bitter place. There are no restrictions in criticising anyone but then one should never forget their limits and kinds of words they use. Maybe they realise it later and quickly delete the tweet but you know, nothing ever gets deleted on the internet. One such incident recently happened on Twitter, where a woman restored a deleted tweet by another user where he was literally abusing a female political leader of our country.

A Twitter user Vasundhara Sirnate journalist by profession, retweeted a deleted tweet by a user named Alok Bhatt. In the tweet, the user criticises a female leader of the Indian Congress by referring to her as an “Italian whore” and further condemns her for settling down in India. Twitter user, Alok Bhatt further demeans the leader by writing that she is meant to be in Berlusconi’s harem. Now the user who brought this pathetic tweet to light slammed him for using such sexist words for the widow of an assassinated Prime Minister of India. The man here basically was referring to Sonia Gandhi.

For the unversed, Silvio Berlusconi was a former Prime Minister of Italy who served the term thrice for a brief period. He was involved in a lot of controversies, and also faced allegations of sexually abusing a teenage girl.

BTW the Twitter user also highlighted other sexist tweets by Alok Bhatt later.

Now, as I mentioned earlier, we are given the freedom of speech but we should also have the maturity of using our rights correctly. Criticising or disliking a particular politician is one thing, but putting out sexist and misogynistic remarks for them is completely unacceptable. There is a certain level of respect and dignity that users should have in their tweets instead of spreading unnecessary hatred for female politicians and using derogatory remarks about them. This in turn is just a reflection of the person that he is. While criticising women in power, why do men forget their manners?
