#Trending: Twitter Is Flooded With Desi Pronunciations Of English Words And They Are All Hilarious

FI Desi Pronunciations Of English Words

There are a lot of things I hate about 2020 (A LOT). This whole year feels like a giant con the universe is playing on us mere mortals and it’s not funny anymore. All our lives feel like someone has hit the pause button indefinitely. If 2020 were a human emotion, it would be what getting hit in the nuts feels like. Okay, being a girl I wouldn’t know what that feels like,  but you get my point.

Anyway, I think we have established this is one of the worst years we will ever have. But we have to acknowledge a few things. Don’t worry, it’s a short list. One of my favourite things about this year is the crazy and wacky things that our very own Twitterati are coming up with. From bizarre food combinations to trends that will make you laugh till you cry, social media has really outdone itself to keep us entertained. Besides, it actually turned out that boredom is a catalyst for creativity. Who knew?

The viral trend I wanted to talk about today is as hilarious as it is relatable. Do you know how us Indians have a peculiar talent of adding a desi tinge to most things? Okay, let me give you an example and you understand exactly what I am talking about- Indian Chinese. I don’t think people in China even know what our beloved chilli paneer tastes like. *Insert inappropriate joke about China and their food habits*

Similarly, I am like a hundred per cent sure you have heard of words that have been victims of a term called Indianism. Yes, it’s a real thing. I don’t just make up words, though I would love to.

For instance, one that I always hated from the bottom of my heart is “pizza” which when said by a desi person becomes “peeja”.  I can’t tell you how many times I have heard some say “peeja” and mentally rolled my eyes at them so hard. You are seriously judging me, aren’t you?

Now, it seems like people on Twitter are really enjoying themselves reminiscing all the words they have heard that have an amusing desi twist to them. The most commonly heard ones are estation, eschool, biskoot and pesial. Ah, I miss life outside my house.
