One of my most favourite and most awaited festivals to celebrate in the year has always been Raksha Bandhan. And no, I am not just saying it because of the hefty shagun ka lifafa I get handed along with the sweets and gifts from my brother, but also because it is the one day of the year when my brother and I are actually civil to each other. It is a day where we keep everything going on in our lives aside, to play catch up and go back to sharing some candid heart-to-heart conversations, like we once used to before we grew up and slightly apart.
But with the pandemic not showing any signs of abating, it’s safe to say that the scare of the virus has been kind of a killyjoy to the vibe of any and all festivals this year. However, trying their best to not bring the spirits down on this auspicious day for siblings, Chandigarh Postal Division has made some heart warming and proactive measures to ensure, a sister’s rakhi reaches a brother just in time, even if she doesn’t because of all the social distancing in these times.
The Chandigarh Postal division is introducing an all special and all new ‘Rakhi Mail Box’ and by doing this, they have outdone themselves in showing compassion and hard work, just so families who are separated by distance can still feel and stay connected. With post offices receiving an over flowing as rakhis make their way to places the sisters cannot, in all 43 post offices in Chandigarh, 25 in Mohali and 27 in Ropar, special arrangements have been made to carry out the process seamlessly.

The Senior Superintendent Post Offices of Chandigarh Division, Manoj Yadav commented on the matter and said, “Special arrangements have been made at all the major post offices to ensure rakhis reach on time. A special drive has also been organised on August 2, a day before the Raksha Bandhan festival for the delivery of rakhis.”

Further elaborating the process, he also explained how, “The cut-off date to sent rakhis for other states is July 25 and for within the state is July 28 to ensure delivery before August 2.” With this initiative, not only sisters would be able to send their love through the mail, and on time, but also keep up the long tradition which at a time like this would mean even more than it usually would. Not to forget the big heartedness to spread the joy that this initiative has added to the festival.
Guess there are somethings stronger than a pandemic, and that is the love for family and keeping relations and traditions alive binds us all together.
