5 Scenic Road Trips You Must Take During The Monsoon

By  |

Coaxing my dad to hand me the car keys while my friends impatiently waited for me outside, packing ourselves into one car, and then Google Mapping our way to a fun out-of-town getaway… these are some of the best memories of my college days. Well, with the monsoon here, I’m craving a road trip all over again!

If wanting to escape the city during the monsoon, and get some much-needed chill time with your friends has got you skimming the calendar for the next long weekend too, we feel ya! That’s why we did half the work for you, and listed out 5 scenic road trips that you must take this monsoon, with your besties.

1. Mumbai/Pune to Malshej Ghats

For Mumbaikars, Lonavala, particularly Malshej Ghats makes for a great road trip. The route boasts of lush greenery and gorgeous waterfalls. Stop on the way to enjoy corn on the cob and some good ol’ chikki in the rain. P.S. The roads are in great condition, so you don’t have to worry about an uncomfortable or unsafe journey.

2. Manali to Leh

Remember the scenes from Jab We Met where Kareena Kapoor is dancing to Yeh Ishq Hai? This trip gives you a breath-taking view of the mountains and some rather challenging terrains. During the monsoon, it doesn’t rain much in Leh, so if you hate getting drenched but still want to enjoy great weather, this is the road trip for you.

3. Delhi to Shimla

From the crowded and polluted Delhi to the mesmerising Shimla landscape, this road trip allows you to witness the great expanse of the Himalayas, blending in with soft clouds.

4. Bangalore to Ooty via Bandipur

Ooty is one of the most popular tourist spots, so a road trip from Bangalore to Ooty seems like a must-do during the monsoon. The roads are the perfect combo of greenery and beautiful asphalt roads, and the mist covering it all makes this trip magical. Plus, the dense forests of Bandipur are home to exotic wildlife.

5. Chennai to Pondicherry along East Coast Road

One of the most beautiful roads we have in our country is the East Coast Road, which connects Chennai and Pondicherry. The sea on one side and the rain beating down as you cruise along; it’s a mesmerising feeling! If you do indulge in this road trip, get ready for a great photography sesh on the way.
