Top 5 Favourite Moments Of Harnaaz Sandhu Winning The Miss Universe 2021: From The ‘Meow’ Sound To Shouting ‘Chak De Phatte, India!’!

This year marks the 70th edition of the Miss Universe beauty pageant (which started in 1952), and it is exciting that India has been able to mark its spot in the history books for this occasion for itself. Our very own Harnaaz Sandhu brought home the crown after 21 years, becoming only the third Indian woman to win the title after Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta. The pageant took place in the beautiful city of Eilat in Israel, which hosted delegations from about 100 countries, including hundreds of journalists, members of the press, thousands of pageant enthusiasts, fashionistas, and the world’s most acclaimed judges, which included Urvashi Rautela, also one of our own. And it is here, on this night that Chandigarh based model, Harnaaz Sandhu, made the country proud as she brought home the coveted title! The diva joins an exclusive list of winners featuring Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta are former winners of the pageant.

It was a memorable night alright, but of course, we all had our favourite moments from the telecast, which happened live on Voot Select in India.

Here are our top 5 favourite moments of Harnaaz Sandhu from Miss Universe 2021 pageant!

1. When Harnaaz Sandhu went full desi and exclaimed, “Chak de phatte, India’’ right after her name was announced as Miss Universe 2021! We loved how her Punjabi heart just burst out with joy in this moment, because it made for a memory for the books!

2. If you follow these pageants, you know that the winning question is always crucial to select the winner. Harnaaz was asked, What advice would you give to young women watching on how to deal with the pressures they face today?”

She replied, saying, “The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing, is to believe in themselves. To know that you are unique makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourselves with others and let’s talk about more important things that are happening worldwide. Come out, speak for yourself, because you are the leader of your life. You are the voice of your own. I believed in myself and that is why I am standing here today.” Love this!

3. During the swimsuit round, the reigning queen adorned a maroon cap-sleeved monokini and walked the ramp like a peacock, with splendid grace. No wonder why she smoothly got placed in the Top 10 of the competition.

4. Not sure how everyone’s feeling about this, but the moment when host Steve Harvey asked Harnaaz Sandhu to mimic animal sounds on live television, was a bit weird. Harnaaz was a good sport, and we think her meow (yep, she’s a cat person!) was pitch perfect. Just give her the title for this already!

5. THE moment, of course! Harnaaz dazzled in her sequined gown (by designer Saisha Shinde) and displayed her million-dollar smile, and our hearts just were so full!
