This Woman Ran A 10k Marathon In 62 Minutes While Being 5 Months Pregnant

Anyone who knows me even remotely will be able to tell you that I am not an athletic person. I don’t watch sports (yes, that includes cricket), I can’t score a football goal to save my life, I am too short to play basketball, and the only time I cycle is if I am vacationing on an island. The most I can do is run. And surprisingly, I do run almost every day. However, I am nowhere close to the likes of this woman who finished the TCS World 10K Bengaluru 2020 marathon in just 62 minutes while being 5 months pregnant. Talk about mom-to-be goals!

Ankita Gaur, an engineer in Bengaluru, is no stranger to running. She has been at it for 9 years now and has participated in multiple international marathons. To her, running comes as naturally as breathing.

Talking about her love for running, she said, “This is something I have been doing for the past nine years, almost every day. You know, you wake up and go out for a run. Of course, there are times, when you are injured or unwell, you have to take a step back. Otherwise, I have been running regularly for nine years, so this is something, which is like breathing for me. It comes to me very naturally.”

Ankita has participated in the TCS World 10K since 2013. She also ran marathons in Berlin, Boston and New York. However, running while you are 5 months pregnant is a whole different story. When asked how she prepared for this marathon she said, “I have been doing easy running regularly for like 5-8 km, very slowly. I run and walk while taking breaks because obviously, now I am five months pregnant, so my body is very different compared to what it was. Earlier I have won medals in TCS 10K, but this time I couldn’t as I had to take breaks and walk.” She really is an inspiration. Ankita’s story called me lazy in seven different languages.

Before deciding to run in this 10k marathon, Ankita consulted with her gynaecologist and physiotherapist. Both of them said it was very healthy to run during pregnancy but advised her to run slowly and take breaks.

When asked how her family reacted when she decided to participate in this marathon, she said that her husband was her biggest supporter. She said, “My husband has also been absolutely supportive and has been with me all the time. Even when we went to ask the doctor, he was with me. Hence, I would say, I am very lucky in that way.”

Why can’t more men be this supportive? They really need to take notes from Ankita’s husband.

This woman is really giving us mommy-to-be goals!
