I like to believe that I am not the kind who’d want to get married in a big, lavish ceremony with me looking like a resplendent bride. I imagine all eyes will be on me and that I will be giving out instructions from under my veil. I’d be dressed in an off-white and golden lehenga, obviously and the decor would be all pastels with white roses and wildflowers gracing the place. Of course, this is a distant dream because I don’t know if I even want to get married. Having had enough heartbreaks even at the tender age of 23, I find myself put off by the institution of marriage and the idea of men. Okay so maybe I may have over-sold my aversion to getting married a little. Or who am I kidding, I am sucker for weddings and already have everything planned to the T. As did a recent bride, Karen who recently got married and beautifully recreated Deepika Padukone’s wedding look.

From picking up the same colour, to the same kind of a bridal lehenga that actress Deepika Padukone donned at her Sindhi wedding, Karen Desai too, walked to her groom Aakash in a fabulously decadent outfit. Upon a recent discussion with a portal, Karen shared how she had always envisioned herself as a Sabyasachi bride. And with the row of actresses like Anushka Sharma, Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, all picking from Sabya’s kitty, we don’t blame her either.

Sabyasachi has made such gorgeous and compelling brides out of every one he has designed for, that many a times, his name is the first thing that usually rolls off our tongues after we say ‘wedding’. Talking about it, she further said, “I had always dreamed of wearing a Sabyasachi dress for my special day. When I arrived at the designer’s store in Mumbai, I picked out two outfits. One was an off-white look, which we thought looked quite modern; and the other was a heavily embroidered red lehenga. My husband suggested that my wedding dress shouldn’t distract people, but rather enhance my beauty. Eventually, he and I picked out this stunning traditional red lehenga. It was the perfect mix of traditional Indian and modern elegance.” And boy, was she speaking the truth.

Looking ravishing in red, wearing a lehenga that is best known for having the ‘Sada Saubhagyavati Bhava’ mantra embroidered in Devnagri script on it, Karen may have opted for a different kind of a drape, but looked just as gorgeous as ever. Tying the knot in front of family and friends in Bali, Karen Desai who is a New York-based entrepreneur, definitely ended up giving us and a lot many others, wedding goals!
