There’s A Tutorial On How Women Can Be Sexy While They Shop. Why Do You Need Women To Be Sexy At The Effin’ Supermarket?

There is nothing that annoys me more that people stereotyping women. And I am sure you are aware just how often that happens and not just in our country. All around the world people have pre-conceived notions about women that are just absolute rubbish. However, the silver lining is that people who do partake in stereotyping women are being schooled. The latest instance of that comes to us all the way from Itlay where a tutorial that aired on national television is being called out. That tutorial gave women tips on how to “shop in a sexy way”. Erm, why? 

The tutorial featured ballerina and pole dance teacher Emily Angelillo who was advising women on how to look sexier while shopping in the supermarket. I can’t stop rolling my eyes at this nonsense. It began with Emily doing a dance wearing a leather mini-skirt and high heels. She goes on to demonstrate how heels can be worn in places like supermarkets.

“For how long must we continue talking about women in a false, stereotypical way, with stiletto heels, sexy moves, always perfect, mermaids or witches?”

The tips she gave in the tutorial, included how to walk in a sensual way while pushing a shopping cart. And how to reach for something on a higher shelf while sexily raising a leg to increase intrigue. She also demonstrates how to pick up a product, if you accidentally dropped it, in a “non-vulgar” way. Exactly why does a woman need to know all this? 

The people in Italy are outraged at this tutorial. And what makes it worse, or maybe ironical, is that it aired on the eve of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. According to reports, some viewers thought it was some kind of spoof or parody. Well, that would’ve made so much more sense. This entire episode was problematic on every level. Thankfully, it has been taken off the air by the channel. 

I just have one question- why does shopping need to be sexy? This entire “tutorial” is all kinds of stereotypical.
