Unleash Your Inner Artist With The Prisma App!
Call me a snob, but I’m tired of my generation’s obsession with “finding their light” and “working their angles” a la America’s Next Top Models. I for one can’t seem to get on board with it. Wouldn’t it be fantastic to just be rich enough to commission an artist and sit for a painting instead? It’s way more romantic than a harried selfie, to be honest!
Which brings me to the new app that’s got everyone talking — yes, I’m talking about Prisma. What sets this photo-editing app apart is the fact that you can turn your visage into a work of art, all with the swipe of a finger. The filters are inspired by famous artists like Pablo Picasso, Roy Lichtenstein, Piet Mondrian, Edvard Munch, and more. Here’s team Hauterfly trying out the various filters.
Here’s team Hauterfly trying out the various filters!
Our Editor-in-Chief Zahra opted for the #FollowMeTo filter that’s modern, bright and fun!
Fashion writer Simi added a touch of dreamy exuberance to her afternoon selfie with the ‘Running In The Storm’ filter.
Our beauty writer Bushra’s filter ‘Wave’ channels classic Japanese Kakemono, a form of parchment art that’s got tons of blue and grey.
Our Social Media Manager Farozan (that’s me!) has chosen the ‘Dreams’ filter. She loves that it adds sharp edges to her selfie and enhances her cheekbones.
Both our Graphic Designers opted for Anime inspired filters. Mansi chose the uber cool ‘Mononoke’ filter.
Shubhi chose the ‘Tokyo’ filter to add a pop of colour to her selfie.
Lifestyle Writer Japleen has picked the ‘Miobi’ filter that highlights her gorgeous eyes!
Lifestyle Writer Sanjana’s layering her photo with a filter that’s inspired by the oh-so-famous Edvard Munch painting, ‘The Scream’.
After toying with the app for a few hours, here are our tips to get a better experience:
- Stick to the colour family that your selfie falls within. So if you’ve got a photo with warm tones, use ‘Dreams’ or ‘Scream’. The ‘Running In The Storm’, ‘Curtain’ and ‘Coloured Sky’ filters will make ANY photo dreamy AF.
- Adjust the amount of the filters used, you can even layer filters if you’re brave enough!
- You can ditch the watermark too. All you have to do is open Prisma’s settings menu by tapping the gear icon, then click on the “Enable Watermarks” slider to off.
- Don’t limit yourself to selfies! Everything from your pet to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link can be transformed with a little bit of Prisma!
