Everything You Need To Know About The New iPhone 7!

Last night, Apple fans in India sat glued to their computer/smartphone screens at 10:30 pm, waiting to live stream the biggest launch event of 2016. As Tim Cook took to the stage singing, everyone watched as he unveiled the most anticipated phone of the year. There was a lot of excited energy as he introduced all the new Apple products, the most important being the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Starting at Rs 60,000, pre-orders in India start on September 16, with sales beginning October 7.

Rumours about the new iPhone started way back and, to be honest, most of them turned out to be true. It really makes you wonder that if Apple can’t keep its secrets, who can? We already told you that the new phones will have an aluminium body that will make it look more glitzy, and they will be way slimmer. The camera has received a drastic upgrade with a 1.8 aperture lens, a 12 megapixel sensor that is 60% faster and a quad-LED flash with 50% light output. The front camera has been upgraded from 5 megapixels to 7 in the latest phone. This only means one thing — your Instagram and Snapchat are going to get a lot busier thanks to this phone! If this wasn’t enough, for all you budding photographers, the iPhone 7 Plus will have two such cameras. Are you excited yet?

And yes, Apple has actually removed the headphone jack (which is still a shocker!) but in its place has made the lightening port better, which was, till now, being used for charging the phone. So if you want to listen to music, insert the lightening EarPods here, which cost Rs 2,500 and come with the phone. And for those of you who have already invested in the 3.5 mm jack headphones, a separate adapter that will cost around Rs 900 will be provided. If you want to do away with the EarPods, you can do that too! Opt instead for the newly launched AirPods that have inbuilt infrared sensors. What is the use of these, you ask? Well, once you connect these pods to your phone, every time you put them in your ear, it automatically connects to iCloud and other applications. Whoa! Impressed much? The downside, though, is that these AirPods have a battery life of about 5 hours and then you have to plug them in. Another device that needs charging. (Sigh!)

The Apple CEO claims that this phone has the highest battery life compared to all the other iPhones. But that’s not all. As predicted, the iPhone 7 will be water- and dust-resistant. Which doesn’t mean you can go underwater with it, but a few drops of rain will not cause any harm. You no longer need to shove your phones inside plastic bags for protection!

These phones come in 5 colours — the standard rose gold, gold, and silver along with two new variations — matte black and glossy black. A perfect match to your shiny nails, isn’t it? The usual colours will be available in 32GB, 128GB and 256GB storage variants, while the new black ones will exclusively be available in 128GB and 256GB variants. Adding to the features is a powerful stereo system, which means the speakers will be way more powerful. Certainly a treat for party animals!

Apart from the phones, Apple launched the Apple Watch Series 2. The price for this starts at Rs 32,900 and this time, the smartwatch aims to keep you fit. It has an in-built GPS and is water resistant too. Like, you can actually swim with it on. It comes in three colours with stylish new straps — Aluminium, Stainless Steel, and Ceramic White. Apple has also partnered with Nike this time to introduce the Apple Watch Nike+ edition, specially designed for runners.

Are you convinced about buying it yet? No? Then watch the video above — it sure has won our Editor over!

*The company will also bundle Lightning Connector Earpods and Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter with the smartphones. These will also be available separately for Rs 2,500 and Rs 900, respectively.
