Only 33% Of Non-Acting Emmy Nominations In 2022 Went To Women, Says Study

Sometimes I wonder how women survive in this male-dominated world but then I remember that we are born to achieve the unachievable. But we can’t ignore the fact that women working in male-dominated industries face many challenges and they don’t even get the recognition as it is very disappointing, to be honest. A study from the Women’s Media Center revealed that only 33% of the 2022 non-acting Emmy nominations went to women. The entertainment is clearly male-dominated and it’s sad.

On Thursday, a study was released from the Women’s Media Center and it revealed a shocking thing but we are not surprised at all. The study found out that only 33% of the nominations for non-acting Emmy awards this year went to women and it is a sign that the television industry is still male-dominated. In July, a total of 2,357 people received non-acting Emmy nominations, from which 67% of nominees are men and around 784 are women and only one nominee is non-binary.

In 2021, the percentage was a little bit low as only 32% of non-acting Emmy nominations went to women. Last year, Editing had the largest year-over increase, with over 35% of nominations going to women, as per the report.

Fortunately, the 10 most-nominated shows this year include at least one woman who is nominated as a writer, producer, editor, director, or actress. However, only one show – Hacks, which is a comedy series has a female showrunner and creator.

Speaking of Emmy Awards 2022, Quinta Brunson made history as the first Black woman nominated for producing, writing, and acting in a comedy series, for Abbott Elementary. Pop star Selena Gomez is the third Latina nominated as a producer for Only Murders In The Building and Kim Ji-Yeon – an executive producer of the Korean drama Squid Game became the first Asian American woman to be nominated for Best Drama Series.

Furthermore, the report concluded that, with the numbers of nominees stacked against women, it is clear that men will dominate the total number of winners in these categories for the 74th annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

Meanwhile, the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards will happen on September 12, 2022.
