On Saturday, while answering questions during a private event, he was asked about how he deals with the stress in his life. The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said, “There is no stress in life. Only wife and girlfriend give stress,” this angered a lot of people and they slammed him on social media for his sexist joke. The internet also labelled him as desi uncle. A lot of people criticised him and called out his misogny. Some tried schooling the cricketer about casual sexism.
@SGanguly99 this is casual sexism. Even if you are trying to joke it is sexist, non-comical and belittling a gender. Wish you retract this statement since you are a person of certain stature, position and responsibility. @BCCI @BCCIWomen

Every one keeps saying it's a joke. Can someone explain what's funny so I can laugh too?

Sourav Ganguly’s demeaning statement perfectly explains that how misogyny is deep-rooted in the minds of Indian men. Some people pointed out that he was just trying to be funny and it was just a mere joke but we didn’t find it funny at all. This whole incident is yet another attempt to belittle a gender and stereotype them.
The shocking fact is that it’s not the first time he haa given such a misogynistic statement. During an old interview, he was asked about his reaction if his daughter wanted to play cricket, Ganguly replied, “Ami Sana ke baaron korbo. Meyedar cricket khelaar dorkaar nei (I’ll ask Sana not to because girls don’t need to play cricket).” Erm, does he not know about Indian women’s national cricket team and their exceptional game?
