In Hinduism, among the 12 purnimas in a year, one is very special, which is none other than Sharad purnima that honours Chandradev. It is also famously known as Kojagiri Purnima. Sharad Purnima Muhurat Time And Rituals

In the year, people look forward to celebrating Sharad Purnima, which falls in the Hindu Lunar month of Ashwin. This year, the muhurat for the same will begin on October 6 at 12:23 PM and will end on October 7 at 9:16 AM. On this day, spending time under moonlight is considered auspicious.

While celebrating this occasion, one should light a diya and pray to lord Chandra. Along with praying to lord Chandra, it is believed that one should also worship Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Visnu and Lord Shiva. On this day, preparing kheer made of cow’s milk and rice should be kept under the moonlight and consumed in the morning. It is believed that the kheer, which is purified by the moonlight, is good for one’s body and mind. On this auspicious occasion, meditating can be beneficial for your inner world and it is also believed to best time to manifest the things one desires.

What Is It’s significance?

It is believed that on this special day, the moon appears with sixteen Kalas, as per Drik Panchang. When one possesses all those sixteen Kalas, he/she is considered a perfect human. Lord Krishna, who was the complete incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was believed to be born with all sixteen Kalas! It is also believed that on this occasion, the moon rays drip nectar, which is why rice keer, made up of cow’s milk is kept under the moonlight and consumed as prasad.

On this day, it is believed that one should abstain from eating non-vegetarian food or wear black or dark-coloured clothes. One is believed to practice calmness, avoiding frustration, anger and arguments. One should also avoid being lazy or napping during the day and practising celibacy.
