March 16, 2022, was indeed a special night for beauty queens around the world, as they came together for the finale round of Miss World 2021. After many rounds of delay, the pageant finally took place in San Juan, Puerto Rico and found its Miss World in Poland’s Karolina Bielawska followed by Shree Saini and Olivia Yac as the first and second runner ups. Witnessing talent from around the world, the global stage welcomed special performances including Miss World 2019 Toni-Ann Singh’s ‘The Prayer’ to showcase solidarity with Ukraine amid the war.

A big night for contestants after a long delay, the new Miss World shared her emotions on winning the title on the official Instagram handle of Miss World and said, “When I heard my name I was shocked, I still can’t believe it. I am honoured to wear the Miss World crown and can’t wait to get to work. I will remember this amazing chapter in Puerto Rico for the rest of my life.” A model and swimmer, the 23-year-old winner is also studying for a Master’s Degree in Management. She further has contributed to a ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ project titled– Zupa Na Pietrynie, extending relentless help to the unprivileged.
The 70th edition of Miss World also organised a special event called
Light 4 Ukraine, wherein the contenders lit candles as a symbol of a United World to stand in solidarity with Ukraine amid the Russia-Ukraine war. More than 7000 candles were prepared for the event, with special messages of love shared by ex-Miss World winners.
Representing India on a global stage, India’s Manasa Varanasi made it to the top thirteen list but unfortunately couldn’t make it to the top five. The Hyderabad based Miss World contender won the Femina Miss India and World 2020.
