There’s something so cute about watching your parents go about arranging your wedding. Sure it’s your big day and everyone’s eyes are going to be on you and what not, but watching your parents do all the leg work, invite the people, give out your wedding cards etc. is all sorts of amazing. As a girl, when your parents take a moment from all the wedding preps to sit with you and discuss you going away, that’s such an emotional moment. Imagine that the beauty of this moment is snatched away and your daughter is taken away from you.
In Bareilly in UP, the father of a daughter, Madanpal Singh was out distributing cards for his daughter’s upcoming nuptials. With just 5 days to go for the wedding, it would have seemed like there’s so much to do and such little time. On Monday, as the father’s bride was making his way home to grab lunch, he saw a crowd gathered around a girl’s body.
He got off his bike only to find his daughter’s body was why people had gathered around. Madanpal Singh fell on his knees and fell unconscious on the scene. Madanpal Singh’s daughter Meenakshi who was just 19 years old had been killed by her fiance Jitin. Jitin told Meenakshi he wanted to take her shopping but called her to deserted area and killed her instead. All this because Jitin didn’t want to get married and the wedding was all set to take place.
Jitin was arrested on Tuesday and it was during questioning that he confessed to killing Meenakshi because she didn’t call off the wedding. His insistence led to an argument between them and Jitin ended up killing his bride-to-be. There may be a dowry angle involved as well. Apparently the families had exchanged gifts before the wedding but Jitin’s family was not happy with what they had been given, claimed Madanpal Singh.
It’s shocking that it’s 2021 and women still have to bear the brunt of greedy men who want their dowry demands met before the wedding and are okay with murdering their bride if the money doesn’t come in. This is horrible.
