Lisa Ray Dishes Out Some Advice On Same Sex Marriage And This Is Something Everyone Needs To Read

After fighting for decades, same-sex relationships are no longer illegal, but they are majorly frowned upon, especially by people who love to dish out misery. Do you know the irony though? Our society is obsessed with getting people married but they don’t understand the concept of love. I mean, I fail to see what’s so wrong in a same-sex relationship – as long as it’s two consenting adults who are happy – what’s the harm? Either our society is too rigid or too mindless (and either way we are doomed). There can’t be another reason they refuse to move with the times.

However, all this is just big talk and the fact of the matter is that largely same-sex relationships are far from being accepted and that makes me very sad. There is more of a chance we will sprout wings and fly than there is of our parents and grandparents accepting this. We might have won part of the legal battle but until people here don’t change their mindsets, this dream won’t turn into reality.

You know what makes me really happy though? The fact slowly and steadily there is real progress happening. From what I can tell, this because of the increased representation of the LGBTQ community in TV shows and movies. There were a lot of them but right now, Made in Heaven and  Amazon Prime’s Four More Shots Please come to mind for featuring protagonists in s same-sex relationships and that is amazing.

The relationship of Bani J’s character Umang and Lisa Ray’s character Samara is as real as any and we loved the way it was portrayed.

In a recent interview, Lisa Ray was asked what she thought about the same-sex marriages being far down the road. She replied saying, “I’m no expert to comment on this. But I have led a very unconventional life. You have to be the heroine of your own story, and not wait for society to change. I’ve always lived my truth and it’s not easy, sometimes you are celebrated, sometimes criticised, but ultimately once you stop living for outside validation, everything starts falling in place. Own your choices.”

This is some really good advice that can be applied to every single person, gay or not. It’s no secret that Lisa has had her own fair share of troubles and I can safely say that she is one of the most inspirational women we have. So, if there is anyone whose advice I would listen to, it would be hers.

The thing is though, reel life and real life are two very different things. People might be warming up to the LGBT community but in real life, the struggle a person from that community goes through is very real and hard-hitting. It’s not as simple as has been shown on screen but I am sincerely hoping that changes very soon.

At the risk of sounding like a cliché, Love is love and we need to learn to respect that.
