And with this motive, the IAF Chief Marshal, VR Chaudhari in a press conference on Tuesday, announced that the force will start admitting women to the OR (Other Ranks) level. It’s the 90th year celebrating our nation’s air force, and it feels great to see the change and the inclusivity happening in the defence forces. Gradually, the potential of women to serve as the front liners in this field is being given due recognition. This was also witnessed in 2016 when the first three women fighter pilots were recruited in the Indian Airforce- Avani Chaturvedi, Bhawana Kanth, and Mohana Singh, again an opportunity limited to men. Moreover, the scheme for the induction of women fighter pilots was made permanent early this year. So, we can see the change happening, and honestly, it’s where we want to see our country heading. Now with the recruitment under the Agniveer scheme, our Indian women will get the scope to prove themselves on the field. This might be coming late but we are getting there.
