5 Hot Chocolate Recipes To Keep You Cozy In The Rains!

5 Hot Chocolate Recipes To Keep You Cozy In The Rains!

Call me an opportunist, but I think we should celebrate Mumbai’s sexy weather! What better way to enjoy the torrential rain and cooler temperatures than some delicious hot chocolate with your bae? It’s ridiculously easy to make a mug of sinfully dark goodness and it beats anything you’ll get at your local coffee chain. Be careful to only use good quality dark chocolate for all the recipes — 70% would be ideal. Only use milk chocolate if you’re in dire straits, but be careful to halve the amount of sugar specified and taste as you go along. All recipes make enough for approximately 2 mugs. Just enough for a romantic date.

2. Coconut Tres Leches Hot Chocolate

Coconut milk and condensed milk give a delicious, tropical twist to this hot chocolate!

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup milk
  • 200 ml unsweetened coconut milk
  • 100 ml condensed milk
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Few drops of vanilla essence, or 1/8th of a vanilla pod
  • Sweetened whipped cream (optional)
  • Chocolate shavings (optional)

Method:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, coconut milk and condensed milk, whisking well to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally so the mixture doesn’t scorch on the bottom of the pan. Once simmering, whisk in the cocoa powder until the mixture is smooth.
  2. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Serve the hot chocolate in mugs topped with sweetened whipped cream, chocolate shavings, marshmallows, or whatever else your little heart desires.

3. Cinnamon-Spiked Homemade Hot Chocolate

This malty and slightly spiced hot chocolate will keep you oh-so-warm and happy!

Ingredients:

  • 240 ml milk

    For the hot chocolate mix:

  • 1/2 tablespoon Horlicks
  • 1/2 tablespoon cornflour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon good quality cocoa
  • 30 grams good-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids), finely chopped
  • 1 tiny pinch ground cinnamon
  • 1 minuscule pinch sea salt

Method:

  1. Pour the milk into a large pan, and bring almost to the boil over a medium heat.
  2. Meanwhile, add all the chocolate mix ingredients to a large jar and give it a good stir to combine. You need around 2 ½ heaped tablespoons of the chocolate mix for this amount of milk. Simply spoon the chocolate mix into the hot milk, give it a good whisk and cook for a few minutes on low before serving. Add toppings as desired.
  3. You can also double the amount of the powder mix and store it in your fridge for 2 weeks!
