There was a time when women were scared of being left by their husbands. Not only because “what will society say?” but the fact that they weren’t independent or capable enough (at least that’s what they thought) to stand up on their own feet. It was largely what made most women keep their heads down and tolerate terrible behaviour. This fear still exists, but it is safe to say that things are changing. Women like Anie Siva are proving to be more independent and capable of taking control of their own lives. Even if they are left alone by their husbands with babies to take care of.

And of the inspiring women is a sub-inspector in Varkala police station, Kerala. Recently, Anie Siva became a sub-inspector which is an achievement in itself. At the age of 18, she was abandoned with a six-month-old baby to take care of. This 31-year old woman married her boyfriend against her family’s will and when things started to go downhill, the two parted ways. After having nowhere to go, she had no choice but to sell ice cream and lemonade.

In 2014, her will to turn things around for herself and her baby, she started preparing for the SI test. And today, she has fought all the odds and has become a sub-inspector in Varkala. Her life journey has been nothing short of a rollercoaster. But her will to fight for a better life for her and her baby has what made her story a success and inspiring for a lot of people out there.

In the latest tweet by ANI, she was seen saying, “I achieved this goal against all odds. I would be happy to see other women getting inspiration from my life in order to stand on their own feet.”

After all the cases of domestic violence and dowry-caused deaths that are coming from Kerala, Anie Siva’s story is like the light at the end of the tunnel. Her will and courage to fight for a better future without having to depend on anyone else are truly motivating.

It’s time for women to start taking control of their own life. If you have a dream, wish, and or a goal, then you need to fight for it. Taking care of your family and your husbands and your babies is important, but keeping yourself on the list of priorities is also equally important. Who is to say that only men know how to manage a work-life balance, if women want (which they should) then even they can ace the work-life balance.
