Diwali 2024 Dates, Timings And More

Diwali is celebrated on the new moon day in the month of Kartik, and this year, the new moon appears over two days—October 31 and November 1. In Hindu culture, dates are very important, especially the Udaya Tithi. Festivals and fasting are usually observed according to this sunrise date. Because of this, some people choose to celebrate Diwali on November 1, as per Udaya Tithi.

Meanwhile, others believe that Diwali and Lakshmi Puja should be celebrated during the Pradosh Kaal which falls on the evening of  October 31. Moreover, as per Vedic scriptures, Lakshmi Puja should be performed on Amavasya. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi first appeared during the Pradosh Kaal, which makes it a crucial time to worship her and perform rituals. On October 31, the Pradosh Kaal is from 5:36 PM to 8:11 PM.
